Shipping - international

Recommended Posts

must get some hassle in some cases.

Maybe some of the Americans on here could explain the often unwillingness to ship to Europe? Never had any problems with Canadians and shipping, I wonder if theres a reason.. would be interesting to know!

Because we hate Europe! ;)

Seriously though, when I sell on Ebay I exclude shipping anywhere outside of the US because I don't want to deal with any potential customs fees, tarriffs, etc.

Even if the buyer pays them its extra stuff that could hold up the sale. Also I have typical American paranoia and feel like the risk for fraud is greater shipping out of the USA.

I'm the same though - so i cant really moan I guess

I dont want to sell to anyone that I couldnt drive to to beat the shit out of in the event of a mishap

If i see a message from 'ObamaFan' or 'StartsnStripes' - I soon tell them where to go ;)

potential customs fees, tarriffs, etc.

I thought the buyer always pays those?

I'd sell anything to anyone on ebay as long as they're paying the shipping, as long as I've got the money I don't see the issue.

A lot of the international buyers don't want the full value placed on the package in order to lower the duties they have to pay. If something gets screwed up, you can run into major problems with insurance.

just bought a whole lot of bauer and easton gear through hockeymonkey. being in australia, they wont ship it to me here, so i got myself a bongous address. freights is over $100 less than the quote from hockeymonkey (not that they would have sent it) and i get brands i cant otherwise get. looks like its worth doing on brands hockey monkey will send me as it does save me substantially on shipping.

its my first time using this, so now i have to wait for the gear to get from bongo to here, but looks promising so far.

Do you have to pay a start up fee, monthly fee etc?

I was looking at USABox.com - all sorts of fees and then they wont hold anything more than 6lb for you - if i wanted to buy 6 sticks, it would probably go over the limit

There is a site where you can get your gear send to there warehouse in VA and they ship it to EU. I just done that and i will get my goods on friday i think. Because they are based in VA you can get gear that is not shipped outside US :D .

It is this site:

http://www.shopusa.com/shopusail/countries...n=startshopping

I got gear from underarmour.com, hokeymonkey.com, greatskate.com and totalhockey.net all in the same shipment out of the us :D. You can see the cost of the handling and shipping on the site before you buy anything.

how did you get stuff from hockey monkey ? the only places i can find are the list of shops down the side in sports goods

You can use more shops then listed on there site. You can use any shop you want. I payed about 21% fore shipping, insurance and fee.

i chose to pay a monthly fee with bongo as my family will also use it as there is plenty of stuff that only ships to US addresses. you can also pay a one off fee, but the shipping rates are higher

i just had my first package arrive. no issues at all, and while it took near two weeks from purchase till i got it here in australia, i did get bauer and easton stuff that i could not get had i not used bongo. i will probably still use it for other stuff i buy, as hockeymonkey has nasty rates and i dont mind saving some.

There are quite a few Americans on ebay won't ship to Canada, never mind Europe. Some will only ship UPS (which will give you outrageous border fees); some will only ship priority mail or global express - which will give you insurance and tracking, but is quite expensive especially for smaller cheaper items. Some Americans on ebay will ship first class for these smaller cheaper items when you ask them - especially individual sellers; less so with companies.

I've shipped a few smaller things to Europe from Canada - a couple really small by letter mail and one larger by surface (boat) mail; gave them the prices and options and approximate time.

I suspect many Americans don't want to go through the hassle of looking up prices for Europe because they know the prices will be high and the person will probably not want the item due to the high shipping price. Many are unwilling to ship without tracking and insurance, and this option is only available in USPS with the much higher price priority mail and much, much higher priced global express. I don't know if it's just many companies on ebay and elsewhere online, or individuals too but many seem to only ship UPS - even if i'm willing to pay more for USPS shipping. Either they don't care about pissing off the uninitiated client with unexpected high border fees, or just don't know, or UPS makes it easier somehow for them to ship, and it's "a hassle" for USPS.

As I'm a Canadian and not an American, some of this is speculation.

Maybe some of the Americans on here could explain the often unwillingness to ship to Europe? Never had any problems with Canadians and shipping, I wonder if theres a reason.. would be interesting to know!
