Even kids have class. Tonight while I was helping coach my daughter's novice game (7-8 year olds) our best player got yet another clean breakaway and was likely going to score his fourth or fifth goal. As he went in on the net he was followed by his younger sister who is also on the team and not even close in skill to her older brother. He deked the goalie and then just left the puck in front of the open net for his sister to whack in for her first goal of the season.

I know this isn't hockey related but, Roy Hallady took out a full page in the Toronto Sun today to thank the fans in Toronto.

My son played in a pick-up game for mites and squirts today, and two peewee aged kids played, too. One of the older kids got the puck on a breakaway, skated wide to the face-off circle and set-up the younger skater for a shot. He kept setting kids up the entire time. He easily could have schooled the goalie the whole game, but he didn't. Those are things you can't coach.

I was in goal a couple of weeks ago, and we're getting smashed. I'm one of our better D, our best D wasn't there, and we're missing 2 or 3 of our best forwards. About a minute left in the game, other team has a real good player that has beat me on a couple shots and I made a couple ultra lucky saves. Anyways, a wierd bounce and he's on a breakaway up 7-2. He comes down, gets across the blue line, I get out above the crease and he just lobs the puck into the corner, skates in front of me, taps me on the pads and skates away.

After the game he says "Hey man you played a pretty strong game for missing your best guys and being stuck in net. Good luck the rest of the year."

Unbelievably classy and truly appreciated by me and my team.

Our midget team played in a tournement around a couple weeks ago and we got to the finals. As we finished our run/warmup we come back and get dressed one of our guys who was a pretty good player had a broken skate blade (those parabolic easton ones) and the proshop didn't have any in stock. I already knew he wore the same size skate as me and when I heard the news he might not play I sucked it up unlaced both my skates and gave him it. He needed it more then I do at the time because it was my first year playing midget A and he's been playing for quite a long time. Unfortunately the other team which dropped out of AA division because they were crapped has beaten us many times.. but this time we played hard and it was tie 2-2 second period and in the end we lost 4-2.. We played a great game but they were better. My whole team gave me the second place cup and told me to keep it for the night before returning it to the coach and thats my random act of class :)

It was good of the shooter not to run up the score, but I don't agree with shooting to the corner. That's like saying, "I can score at will, but I'm taking it easy on you."

In the same situation, I've shot six-hole . The goalie makes the save and the shooter is not rubbing the lopsided victory in his face.

I had this saved for a long while. I lost it when I got my new computer. I remember reading this article about Kris Draper and Brendan Shanahan in the Detroit Free Press when it was first out. I know there are great players everywhere, but the Red Wings of the 1990's was probably, collectively, the best team seen on & off the ice.

Unbelievable. I probably would crap my pants if I ever saw this happen. So often in the leagues I've played in, most guys won't turn down a breakaway.
