One95 skates break in period?

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a new pair of skates, was at LHS trying out skates and was told I might not be able to break into a One95 because I am too light and will be too stiff for me. I am 5'9 160lb, play 3-4 times a week in adult league. I do skate hard. Is it true?

One of my friend who is about 140-150lbs has had his One95 for about 1.5 years and said he still finds it too stiff but he is more of a casual skater but still plays as much as I do.

Thank you for your input.

I'm 5'9 180. Yes, 20 pound difference. Mine were fine after the 2nd day. I'm sure you'll break into them rather quickly. If you bake them and get out for some free skate periods ( if your rink has those ) and stick/puck times, they should be fine after a month.

I have a forward that is about 5'7 and weighs in around the 150 pound mark. he picked up a pair of ONE95's last week. After baking and skating in them after one week, they broke in nicely for him. At least that's the comment he said this Saturday during a stick / puck time.

Although it's obvious, do remember one thing... the ONE95 is one of the stiffest, if not, the stiffest skate out in retail currently. I know a few skaters that are 6 feet tall 220 and complained about them being too stiff for them even after a month & they play on a consistent basis. So, the point I'm trying to make is that everyone prefers different stiffness. It can go both ways for you. They are GREAT skates though.

Mine felt broken in after about 4 hours if I skipped the top lace. About a month later I was able to lace the top set again and it felt normal.

At 5'6", 140, I have felt comfortable out of the box and on ice in no time in ONE90, ONE95, and the TO. I think how soon you would feel comfortable and game ready in ONE95, will have more to do with what skates you are wearing now. If there is a big difference from your current skate, a ONE70 or such, then just getting used to a ONE95 might take a few skates. If you can get them for a good price, go for it. Too much paralysis by analysis.

5'7" 180, It took me about 10 minutes to break these in, if you want to call it that. It was just basically the usual time it takes to get used to a new skate.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I didn't want to start a new thread and couldn't find a better place to put this question. I have had my one95s since the day they released over 2 years ago. Has anyone else's gone soft on them? They still look in decent shape but my stride seems weaker. Not sure if Its just me or if my boots gone soft.
