Advise on a better boot/skates (on Mission AG 120 now)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.

I started skating few years ago with CCM Vector 2.0 then shortly switched to older model, but pro model CCM E60 then Vector 10. I have had problems with all of those skates they pushed on my inside ankles a lot. I have pronounced inside ankle bones that stick out more compared to some other guys I know whose you can't even see. I also had difficulties stopping and maneuvering/gliding in all of them.

I was advised to try Mission AG120. I was told they had better forward flex and better on ankles. This skates really made a big difference in my skating. I started gliding so much better and they do not push on my inside ankle bones. But whatever I have done to them baked/pushed out at the shop with a machine they still rub my bone that's diagonal going down from the inside ankle. If I do not put a gel pad on it under the socks I get a blister right away. It's like there's not enough cushioning there. I think their blade holder and boot made a difference.

I still want to find a better boot/skate. I know CCMs are not for me, so probably Reebok as they have same boot and holders. I was thinking about Bauer. Tried XXXX once and felt them pushing on inside ankle bones and figured they probably wont fly.

What skates should I look at considering this factors I described above? Is Bauer lightspeed tuk 2 holder going to be very different from Missions? I noticed it's higher from the ice and shaped different. Well... appreciate some input.

Thanks.

You may want to check a Graf 707 or even 727. They are the only boots I can think of off the top of my head that may put less pressure on your ankle.

Try the Supreme line from Bauer. They have a wider and deeper fit than the Vapor's.

I don't understand why people only try out the Vapors to find that they're to narrow and than dismiss Bauer completely.

Thanks for advises. Post if anyone got more. Will try Grafs and Supreme. Supreme I'm kind of opposed to is because they seem to be such stiff boots that won't give much flex. One guys on one50s says he has to get used to them if he does not skate for a week...

People say that the Vapor XXXX have a boot stiffness that's up there with the ONE95.

I like the stiff boot, I can unlace 2 eyelets to get the forward flex and not have the feeling of my ankles rolling over and still having the lateral support and response on my ONE95

Does ONE95 have more instep heel depth than XXXX? I want to try them on and see, but have not found them in stock around my place yet...

I wanted to update. I got Bauer Vapor X60. I was really skeptical about them at first, but after baking once and pushing out some pressure points they become great. So far these are the best skates I never skated in!

Also....if you find they do not work for some reason...the Mission L7(pro stock) are the choice I would go with......Good luck!

Is not Mission is taken over by Bauer? I think there's Mission brand skates anymore...

Me thankfully is happy with X60, first time through my 3 year hockey carrier :D I finally found skates that fit well with no pressure points.

There are some mission skates still kicking around.
