Did he plead the 5th...or say "No Comment" during all the testimony he gave? Could he actually be brought up on perjory (sp?) charges or not?

As I recall he answered just about every question from congress regarding steroid use with "I'm not here to talk about the past...". Can't see how he'd face any perjury charges for pretty much pleading the 5th.

Nah, he did it because he was hired to be the Cardinals hitting coach and wanted to avoid the same question a million times over once spring training opened.

just my opinion, but shouldn't a coach have had some talent? I understand that McGwire was a basher for most of his career, but only hit over .300 2 or 3 times. What is his "coaching" going to entail? Telling guys how to juice up without it being noticeable, and telling the other guys to "lean into one" and take their base?

Ridiculous. It reminds me of when people laughed at the thought of Donnie Baseball being named a hitting coach. THAT was a hitter right there!

There are plenty of coaches that weren't great players. Knowing how to teach and evaluate a skill isn't highly correlated to the ability to perform the skill.

Understandable. I just wonder how many players are going to respect what Mark McGwire has to say. I'm not sure I would.

I think in the end his players will either improve under his guidance or not. Others will judge him by his effectiveness. As demonstrated by McGuire's actions and others, it's all about performance.

Being a great player and coach are two completely different things. Some coaches were great players but suck at coaching , doesn't matter if the coach hit .300 10 years in a row , as long as he has the skills and abiltly to teach his players how to hit.
