Need some opinions on gloves I have researched

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Really need some help here - never seen so many different brands/models of gloves!

Here's my scenario: I live in the UK, limited brands/stock over here. My old Easton Ultra-Lite gloves have holes in and are nearly unusable.

I started looking for gloves over here but as usual, not a lot to choose from. Started looking in the USA, found what i wanted but it'll cost me in shipping.

Here are the gloves I've narrowed it down to:

UK gloves available (less shipping, quicker postage, no customs/taxes)

  • CCM Pro Tacks - £110
  • Warrior Bonafide - £91
  • Sherwood 9950 - £48

USA gloves (better range, lower purchase cost, high postage/tax costs)

  • Mission Boss SE - $119
  • Mission M1 Pro Stock - $89
  • Mission Commander SE - $89
  • Mission H7 - $89

The lists are very different, purely down to availablity differences between the UK and USA.

From the lists - does anyone have any instant thoughts i.e. "that glove is terrible / not much difference between x and x etc"

I'm a 13.5" in my Easton Ultra-Lite gloves so will be going for a 14" as I think they come up small.

Thanks chaps

Rich

If its possible I would strongly recommend you pay a little more and get Warrior Franchise gloves. By far the best pair of gloves I've ever used. If not the Bonafide's seemed ok, just a little heavy, and I only tried on a new pair so I don't know how long it takes to break them in.

I've also used Bauer prostock 4-rolls which were really comfortable.

Franchise aren't available over here, cant find them anywhere.

Just realised I put a similar post up a few months back - apologies - but it's now purchase time!

What I really want is some Sherwood 9950 Pro gloves, but cant find them anywhere. Is there much difference between the normal 9950 gloves and the 9950 Pros? apart from the better looks?

Also, what do you think of the Hitman gloves? Compared to the Franchise?

I haven't used them but they do look kind of bulky. AK-27's are pretty good. Whatever you do, do NOT get bully gloves. That was the first pair I got before my Franchise and I had to go through 3 pairs of them because the fingers started to fray. Luckily for me I knew the guy who runs the Warrior warehouse and he was able to upgrade me to Franchise. He said they get around 10 pairs of Bullys sent back to them a week cause they're so poorly constructed.

Thanks for the info - i'm gonna have a look on eBay tonight and see what's on there

Wow, and here i was thinking that gloves were gloves. Other than 13" I'm not picky

When you dont get the money to buy something like this often, you cant afford to screw up

They seem well priced, like $109 for the Boss SE seems good compared to Eagles - I know Eagles are meant to be a better glove but they're just too pricey for me. Over here, Mission stocks aren't great (plus high prices) and I could get something a bit different to everyone else if I shop in the USA

Other than Mission, I wouldnt mind some Sherwood 9950 Pros, as i'm a bit of a sherwood fan and have only heard good things about these (plus they're cheap) - just need to find the black/white ones on eBay.

Not a fan of the new Eastons even though I love my current ones - i prefer the shiny leather look than nylon.

Bauer I seem to have something against. I know they are a good glove and very comfy from what I've heard - but I just dont like the look of them - plus they're very pricey over here.

CCM is a no no for me, always seemed a bit cheap and amateur.

Each to their own though, probably explains the massive market and range for gloves

I'll appreciate and take on board any comments though

Well, thanks for all the help guys.

Ended up getting some SWD 9950 Pro gloves, chicago colours to go with my black kit.

Got them for £55 new, shipped to the UK. Seemed pretty good to me, well, it is good compared to the prices over here (standard 9950s cost £50 + £5 shipping - and only in red and one size <_< )

Hopefully customs wont sting me if they sent it as a gift

Maybe later in the year i'll get another pair of gloves if money is ok

Oh wait - i'm getting Sherwood 'HG Momentum X8 pro' gloves - supposedly they are a rebranded 9950 pro, that was done as part of a marketing promotion from Sherwood.

Anyone know about this promotion? Did they change anything apart from glove labels? What were they promoting?

even though you got gloves already, eagles are pricey

but in my opinion you haven't worn a high end hockey glove

till you have worn an eagle glove unreal

Agreed! Eagle is by far the best glove out there. Next to skates what could be more important than your gloves? I wouldn't buy anything other than a pair of Eagles. I highly recommend.

New gloves are OK, not as loose as my old Eastons which took a while to get used to. Found my shot ended up a lot lower and was harder to get air - but gradually got rid of that
