glue removal

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I just bought a one55 shaft and got the blade inserted ( my first 2 piece stick ) and noticed that the glue seeped around the shaft which was no problem because when it cooled it peeled off no problem but there is still a little residue and was wondering what solvent would be safe to apply to remove it? or should I just not worry about it?

Also, what exactly is it that holds the blade in tight? is it the glue or is it when the shaft retracts after being heated up? I heard that the glue is really just a lubricant and holds the blade in place until it cools off

thanks guys

Jeremy

Don't worry about the excesss glue, using a solvent has the potential to weaken your stick. The glue also helps hold the blade in the shaft and take up any additional volume inside the shaft. Most of the pressure does come from the cooling of the shaft though.

Goo Gone takes EVERYTHING off! So use sparingly if you try it.

Otherwise something like a cotton ball with acetone (nail polish remover) might work

But the glue doesn't hurt your stick, so like chadd said, just leave it to be on the safe side

cheers for the help guys ;)

If a blade is loose is it common to scrape the glue of the hosel and put some hockey tape around it then reapply some stick glue to the hosel and put the blade back in the shaft?

again thanks for the speedy reply guys, like I have said in some other threads, things are very different since I last played and having a forum with some nice guys around really helps with some of the questions that feel silly asking. I put a easton wood blade in the one 55 shaft also. I always liked using easton sticks when I played and the one55 shaft felt good so hopefully this blade shaft combo works for me

again thanks :)

Jeremy

Yes, you can use some tape to make the fit better. People do that quite a bit. You probably don't even have to apply glue to the outside. There will be enough inside the shaft and the shaft shrinking will make it plenty tight. That has been my experience in the past.

A lot of times the tape will deform the shaft slightly and then the only way a blade will ever fit in is with tape. You should not do it unless you need it.

That's fine, and you can never use too much glue. Just wait for it to cool and peel it all off.

That is what I meant. I wouldn't do it unless it was absolutely necessary, only to tighten a loose blade.
