Lost Between Two Skates Torspo Surge 221 Vs CCM V06

Recommended Posts

hi all

am getting a new skate because my old one just broke down due to a slap shot :P any ways am thinking of two skates at the time

Tosrpo Surge 221

or

CCM V06 << or even the 2009 CCM V05

so which one do you advise? am really into the torspo more because its thier top end skate so am thinking its a great deal but my broken skate was a torspo surge 100 and it didnt even hold up for one year and the blade broke along with the holder so am not satisfied with that quick wear down and am afraid the same is going to happen to the 221 , any ideas ?

if your torspo blade and holder broke and it was within a year of purchasing it, it should be covered by warranty. did you purchase them at a brick & mortar store, or did you pick them up online?

the 221 is roughly the same weight as the 100. the pika holders on these skates are insanely heavy.

I have KOR Shift 1's and Shift 2's for ice and a pair of Torspo 221's with Sprungs for roller. The Torspo boots fit like the Shift 1's, but have removable inserts instead of built in footbeds and have a higher tendon guard. If you get the right size and they're baked properly they should work for most people as they're very responsive to heat (I had better success with the KOR molding instructions than the Torspo ones though...I don't think the skates got hot enough with the Torspo instructions as they recommended a lower bake time).

The Surge 221's are stiff, responsive and very moldable. I don't know about the holders and steel as I don't have those. Between the Torspo's and the V6's (middle of the line CCM) I'd go with the Torspo's, but if you'd like to add a 3rd skate to the equation I'd recommend a KOR skate. The fit and sizing of the Shift 1's are the same as the Torspo 221s, but most Shift 1's come with Mission Pitch holders and steel (some early versions have Tuuk Custom+) - I've been very happy with the steel and holders. The Shift 2's will fit the same lengthwise, but are wider, deeper and higher cut with removable Superfeet.

I believe Torspo used the KOR Shift 1 molds after KOR moved their production from China to Mexico (that's what I've read here anyway)...which is another reason you may want to just look for KORs in your size. You may as well go with the original KOR skats as opposed to the Torspo version.

Oh, and I'm not sure the 221's fit the same as the 100s so be careful with sizing there...I wouldn't assume anything there. The KORs/221s should be about 1 size up from the V06 skates. So if you're a 7 V06 you'd need at 8 KOR...getting the correct size and fit is the most important part. The KOR and Torspo skates can be great, but only if you get the right size.

if you're somewhere near a perani's location, i'd take them in. they'll replace the blade/holder/whatever is broken for you and you'd have your skates back in a day or two. i'm not sure how their warranty program works online, but it's worth looking into. check hockeyworld.com. there's probably some information on there, or at least a number to call.

if you have the surge 100, you probably know pretty well what the 221 is like. the boots are shaped exactly the same, but there are different materials at play. it is an extremely stiff boot. as stiff/maybe even moreso than my prostock one95s. never feel a shot off them. they do take a little while to break in, and a lot of people have had issues with rubbing on the top/outside area above the ankle, that can lead to some nasty sores. i remedied this by wearing baseball socks when i skate in them. the steel and the holders is the same between the 221 and the 100, so you're familiar with that.

unfortunately, i don't have any experience with any of the newer ccm vectox V0x series. perhaps somebody has some insight into those for you.

the 221s and the 100s seem to fit the same to me... i'd go with the same size with confidence.

thanks for the help :) , i think i`ll go for the 221 cuase the 100 was working well for me , till they fell apart

and about the warranty thing i think i have no chance at that because i live in middle east in Dubai ( i guess u heard about it ) so its an international order to me so getting the 221 is better than replcaing the old one i just might get a new pair of holders and install them into my old boots , keep them as a memory lol :P

If you want to replace the holders on the Torspo's one option would be picking up a cheap closeout pair of Mission Ice skates with Pitch 3's on them. The holder and steel is unfortunately discontinued, but it's great hard steel and the pitch is adjustable. You would be looking for the same size Missions as your Torspo's for the right holder size - eg. 8.5 Missions use 272mm Pitch holders and my 8.5 KORS use the sames size and Torspo and KOR sizing is the same (in my experience).

I've seen many sub $100 closeout deals on Mission skates with Pitch 3 holders and steel.

go with the torspos... I've used mine for about 18months, and have mounted about 3 different frames on them and its still bloody stiff and supportive. They are backups now, and might be mounting some normal hilo or vnaguards on them.

The torspos are pretty good in sucking your feet into the ankle pocket.

Also, maybe contact Torspo direct... the last time I did, they told me they were selling their stock at super low prices (verified...)
