Pond Hockey ?

Recommended Posts

I'm headed to Iowa next week to visit some friends and I want to play some pond hockey while I'm there. Anything I should know about certain skate hollows or anything for a pond? Around Dallas I normally skate on 1/2", Im 6'2" 235lbs.

Can't really help you with your hollow question, but don't wear your good skates on the pond out here in Iowa (or any pond for that matter). With the freezing rain we had two weeks ago, everything up here in the NW corner is pretty beat up.

The ponds here are really, really shitty. What pond? Theres a pond hockey tournament in DM this sat/sunday. There actually is though one "pond" in Ames that is pretty well made and maintained, but still horrible compared to any rink.

As for hollow and all that? Don't worry about it, 1/2 is plenty fine, you'll fall plenty of times from catching crap in them anyways, you'll just have to get them sharpened before next time you hit real ice

When skating on any pond, lake or river, you will need to sharpen your skates b4 you go back to an indoor rink. The reason is there is more dirt in the frozen outdoor water, the skates will get duller faster.
