Nhl to open with games in Helsinki, Prague, Stockholm

A record six teams will be opening next season in three different European cities.

The Carolina Hurricanes and Minnesota Wild will play two regular-season games against each other at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland, on Thursday, Oct. 7 and Friday, Oct. 8.

The Columbus Blue Jackets and San Jose Sharks will square off for two games at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, on Friday, Oct. 8 and Saturday, Oct. 9.

The Boston Bruins and Phoenix Coyotes will play each other at O2 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic, on Saturday, Oct. 9 and Sunday, Oct. 10.

Pretty cool to see them expand this even more than they have in the past. I liked it the first couple seasons they did this and its cool to see more and more teams participating. The matchups are kinda weird with Canes/Wild and Bruins/Coyotes IMO, I wonder why they didn't keep it in the conference so that there is some type of rivalry perhaps? (Canes/Bruins just had a 7 game series , chance of Wild/Yotes meeting in this years playoffs)

:D

Rivalry games sell tickets at home. Cross conference games between teams that have no history, not so much.

Yeah I saw that with the Islanders..seems kinda crazy and pointless and more taxing on the players than necessary. Charles Wang can parade them around infront of his buddies for a few days..
