Shooting off the toe?

Recommended Posts

I've noticed a lot of NHL'ers do this and it seems to help me a lot in motion. Instead of starting at the heel and rolling to the toe, then releasing the wrister, start at the toe and roll the puck back toward the middle and shoot... My shot is harder, more deceptive and equally as accurate. Anyone else?

its more accurate for me when i shoot off the toe and i like the quicker release part, i get more power off the heel but the puck goes god knows where, thats why i tend to shy away from heel curves, well that i can't seem to stickhandle for crap with heel curves

Since I use heel wedges, it isn't my preferred method of shooting. It works best with mid or toe curves.

Makes sense. I think a more open pattern is indeed much preferred for this. The only problem is the puck occasionally rolls off my toe more with a very open curve- but it's so deceptive when it works...

A nice mid/toe with no loft works exceptionally well for this method.

Ingenious! I'm starting to wonder why loft gets so much run... A little helps, but a lot causes me more trouble than it's worth.

There are three things that make elevating a puck easier; more loft, deeper curve, lighter flex. Give up a little on the loft and add a little more depth to the curve.

I've also noticed a shorter stick means easier lift, part of why I like a longer stick. My initial problem was keeping the puck down. Ironically, shooting off the toe helps that, I don't know why.

I've never really thought about shooting like this; doing a reverse roll from toe-to-mid. I use Drury's, and have found the best way for me to shoot is simply having the puck near the toe of my blade, either in motion or stand-still, and just snapping it on net. I may try your way and see if it's any better.

There's two different things that can be talked about here:

There's shooting JUST off the toe(what the topic title kind of implies).

or

There is pulling the puck in with the toe, to the middle of the blade and shooting it normally from there.

Both have their situations, the second is great if you have time to do a full wrist shot... changing the angle is pretty much the only way you'll ever score with a wrist shot on a high level goalie. Stamkos scored on Luongo doing this on Tuesday.
