The one is Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb.

Hell yeah, and by them I am also adding On The Turning Away.

David Gilmour is my favorite guitarist. His solos are great, not overpowering or crazy technical...you almost can't beat Comfortably Numb.

Another one of my favorites is the beginning of Sorrow...it just sounds so nasty, I love it.

Have either of you seen them live? I remember begging my dad to take me w/ him to see the Delicate Sound of Thunder show in the Spectrum (Philly). He went w/ friends and refused to take me...I guess he didn't want his 8 year old watching him and his buddies toke up and drink themselves silly :)

He made it up to me and took me to see the Division Bell Tour at Veterans Stadium. WOW! Totally ruined me for all that have come after it... :D

Sorry to get off topic there...took a little trip down memory lane.

The Division Bell tour was decent. The show was amazing but more than half of the music was sampled and played back via computer and keyboard. That was disappointing.

Thanks a lot Chadd...you friggin' kill joy

Gilmour did play his own solos right? You're not going to ruin that too are you? ;)

I can add one thing, the new sax player they got SUCKED! He played like a robot...

He played most of them but he let the other guy play one of the big ones. I don't recall if it was money or numb.

Rush - La Villa Strangelo, freakin amazing opening to the song, better than anything I have ever hear, screw Zeppelin and Hendrix, this guitaring makes the guitarists in those bands sound easy

Avenged Sevenfold is definatley rising as one of the best current bands.

I just love Unholy Confessions, that song has a kick ass bridge.

Anything by Yngwie Malmsteen, can't believe he hasn't been mentioned here yet.

He's good but none of his solos are memorable. I used to have a ton of his stuff and listened to him regularly and I can't hear one of his solos in my mind right now. The truely classic solos are the ones you can hear and instantly know the song or you can hear it in your mind.

Okay, I couldn't resist...I watched the Pulse video today. He gave the other guy the second part of the solo in Another Brick. When the bass player switched to a slap bass groove the other guy took over. At that point Gilmour totally disappeared, he must have gone backstage for a crimpet and some tea.

Remember the giant disco ball?

Biggest disco ball ever...

Couldn't find the "best guitarist" thread, and I can't find the record so I can't even listen to it, but in a flash I just remembered how amazing UFO's "Obsession" was and decided to chime in here somewhere. Every single track features an absolutely incredible Michael Schenker solo.

daaaaaaayum, talk about reviving an old thread.

My favorite solo has to be Master of Puppets by Metallica. If you know the song, and what it's about, it's just pure genius.

I play 'I Am A Viking' when our HS team (Cad. Vikings) leaves the ice after warmups. Didn't like it when I first downloaded it, but now every time I end up singing the whole song while I'm tending nets for Zam.

BEST SOLO EVER... Metallica- Unforgiven

Yeah, I know it, but out of nowhere I remembered how much that album blew me away and had to say something about it somewhere. Haven't been able to listen to it in a long time.
