Skate Laces

Recommended Posts

Last pair of waxed laces I used (I went back to unwaxed) was just caked with wax. I took a butter knife and scraped the excess wax off and called it good.... I change laces whenever they get dirty (usually about three weeks) 'cuz I'm required to have nice bright clean laces.... if they aren't cut really bad I give the used ones away....

best lace on the market hands down are howies. dont be fooled by anything else. manufactured in the "graf" style, the quality is second to none. they make an amazing DRY coadhesive grip tape which is simply phenomenal..... no too sticky yet sticky enough. and their cloth tape rivals only jaybird. google them. trust me. fantasic product. and the customer service is flat out fantastic. usually they only do team orders, and their stuff is hard to find unless you live in MI. so with just one phone call i got a smaller case load for a reasonable price and 2 free t-shrts and some stickers.

My LHS sells their tape and it is quite good. They dont have their laces though and I'd like to try it. I think I'll ask them to order some next time they order tape and I'll give them a try.

I swapped out the Graf waxed laces on my G35's for Bauer unwaxed because the Bauers are way thicker and that tends to "bite" into my feet less. The Grafs are more pliable than my old stiff Vapors. I really want to find Bauer waxed laces but nobody around carries them.

Just FYI, HG got some in stock not too long ago... thankfully.

I won't ever let my stock of laces get under 3 pairs or replacements, this was ridiculous.

You use the Bauer waxed? Are they as wide as the unwaxed? And how waxy are they?

They're waxier than A&R and other cheap brands but less waxy than Graf. They are the same thickness as other Bauer laces as far as I can tell(a hair over 3/8").

Bauer waxed laces are the only laces I use, I've used Graf but they're just too narrow for my liking. Graf is the only other lace I'd consider using.

I leave the bottom laces completely loose, you can easily slip a finger under the laces but from the elbow of the skate and up(skipping the top eyelet) they need to be tight to lock the heel. I need good laces to do this without slipping, obviously no lace lock on Bauer skates.

I have used elite waxed about a year or so and they were not that bad. About a month ago I replaced my 10 year old's laces with elite waxed and noticed he never came out of the locker room. I decided to check up on him and heard some 4 letter words about laces. He couldn't get them untied!! It was funny but I went back to Graf

A ten year old dropping four letter words? He's definitely a hockey player, according to Gordie Howe's theory :)

Add another "way too waxy" complaint for Elite Waxed laces.

I also wanted yellow laces (no, I'm not trying to be like Ovechkin), and Elite yellow laces are way too yellow!

I bought Graf Waxed laces in yellow. I'm hoping they're not too waxy and the same yellow as the ones that come with the G-series Graf skates.
