Rbk 10k shins vs. 6k shins

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Trying to choose between the two...I've only tried on the 10ks in a store, but I imagine the 6ks will fit similarly. I'm in Australia now and will be playing in a full-contact league, so whatever I get, it needs to be appropriate for that, but at the same time I don't want to spend the extra $$$ if I don't need to. I've checked out the videos on IW and it looks like the 10k just has an extra inch of calf protection.

Can anyone vouch if there's a big enough difference between the 6k and the 10k to spend the extra dough? Or would the 6k be more than enough for a contact men's league?

The 6Ks are more than enough if you are looking to save some coin. It's a fine pad, the fit is pretty similar if noit the same and it does the trick quite nicely. The one thing I would look for is which model. The last iteration of the pad (I think 2008) did not have the flap/pad that rests above the knee. It is my understanding the current model does have it.

When it comes to Reebok shin pads you can almost not go wrong , protection wise. They all use the same outer shell, it's just the softer padding and calf protection that is slightly different. Yes, the 6k has slightly less protection around the calf area but the newer model does have more than the older ones above the knee. I believe the 6K should give you plenty of protection for a contact league. Even mid-level Reebok shins offer as much or better protection than some top end models of other brands and their much more reasonably priced.

Echo what others have said. Personally decided on the 6K three or four years ago. And yes, there are differences between last year's model and this with the top of the knee flap one of those differences. Funny, because it was actually that flap that was the reason I went with the 6K and not the 8K (besides money). In college back when, we actually cut the flap off. That was because it would get caught up funny with our pants. So just in case that is a concern.

Good luck, but either way, you can't go wrong.

How much do you really need the calf protector? I think all pro stock Jofa and RBK/Reebok shins come without it (not talking about the top of the knee flap)

the nice thing, imo, about the newer generation 6k is that the top flap is adjustable and/or removable.

The 8k definitely doesn't have a calf wrap, and I'd much rather have something there than limp into school to teach a class on the Monday after playing.
