lamest trophy in hockey --- thats like giving a trophy for the most baskets in basketball - at least things like the norris and the vezina take a whole picture of the recipients game rather than one, lame statistical tally.

If ovy wins it I won't be surprised but it's sort of 'great you can score goals - but! you don't backcheck; You're cheaper than mcdonalds, and you take 350+ shots a year - but good job netting those goals cause its going to help you on the golf course pretty soon'

wow, possibly one of the most ignorant posts ive read on here.

first, lets never compare goals in hockey to baskets in basketball again. ever. maybe you didnt realize, but there are about 25 times more baskets per game than goals. making a basket is a hell of a lot easier than scoring a goal in the nhl.

and id guarentee you havent seen ovechkin play recently. his defensive game has improved drastically since he stepped into the nhl scene. unfortunately, people like you havent acknowledged his recent re-commitment to the defensive side of the game. sure, hes no jere lehtinen or even a sidney crosby in the defensive zone...but he doesnt need to be! thats not his game. he wont be as effective if he concentrates that much on defensive play.

and when was it ever a bad thing to have 350+ shots a year? youre not gonna score if you dont shoot...youre not gonna win if you dont score. as far as im concerned, ovechkin is the best at what he does. hes the best forward in the game.

Give him a setup man like Backstrom and maybe Gabby would have 50 goals already. He's terribly underrated even despite him being prone to injury.

ovechkin will probably finish the season as leader in points and goals. bodreau should be lighting a fire under the teams ass after the last 3 games or so.

Even though im from Pittsburgh and a pens fan (not the biggest crosby fan though) im pulling for Stamkos. I think it would be a great way to bounce back from the criticism he took last year, and hopefully be a nice kick in the ass for Vinny to get his game back to the elite level he can play.

PS I got stamkos in a fantasy league in the 10th round. what a steal!

Stamkos was a steal for anyone who took him. Either way I think this season he's shown he is an elite performer and hopefully will keep up the goals in many years to come.

I think what Westcoastsniper was trying to say (in reference to Ovi shooting a ton) is that with that many shots he better score a lot.
