I wouldn't wear a nice NHL jersey while playing. I don't care if someone customizes a jersey, but I personally prefer to go with a real player and real number. Yes you run the risk of that person getting traded, but if you pick the right person like one that is the leader of the team, then the jersey will still be good long after he's gone.

I wear a Blackhawks sweater with my name on it and #54 to play pickup hockey. Why? Because my older brother who died 6 years ago was born in 1954 and was a huge Blackhawks fan, so I wear it as a tribute to him. So I don't give a shit what anyone thinks of having my name/brother's name on a pro jersey.

After the Bruins performance this year, I figure I should wear a jersey with my name on it when I go to games, just in case I get called up I can hear the announcer now... "Ladies and gentlemen, is there a forward in the house? Anyone who can score, please report to the training room..."

that's really cool. don't take it personally, there's a huge difference between a tribute to a loved one lost and self promotion.

i wear my jerseys. i have too many. i dont wear nhl jerseys to practice clinic etc

I actually like having jerseys of players already traded.

It's not like you can get one later easily (because it's not likely that he'll come back again to the same team) so it has a bit of rarity value. Plus they go on closeout so they're cheap

Of course, that's if he's a rather high caliber player though.
