Easton S11 Skates

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know or have any information on replacing the tongues on these skates?

I have had these about one year and love the fit and the skates overall but I can't stand the pre molded tongue, the tongues slip to the side and I hate the look of them in general.

Just wondering if it's worth changing the tongues? Cost? Where can I get this done?

Thinking about biting the bullet and switching to the S12's if changing the tongues on the S11 isn't feasable.

Any feedback or opinions would be appreciated

Thanks

I had S11's and had the same problem. I considered replacing the tongues, but they fell apart before I made up my mind, so I just bought a new pair of skates. Don't mess with the tongues; pick up some One95's now that they're on clearance.

Thanks for the feedback and the recommendation.

Never skated in Bauer's, back in the day I was a CCM Tacks guy, went through numerous versions of the Tacks and Super Tacks. Got the Eastons since the fit was similar to the TACK line i.e. they didn't hurt! I always heard Bauer were narrow so i stayed away. Anyway I get the feeling that replacing the tongues will be a pain in the a$$. I'm thinking of giving the S12's a try, I love the fit of the S 11's So I would assume the fit is similar in the 12's. If that doesn't work out, may try Graf or Reebok.

By picking up the S12's, you get the new tongue, the new material, and the improved durability that was added to the skate in the form of the new toecap and composite boot.

I went from the S15's to the S17's with no problem at all, so I would imagine going from S11's to S12's shouldn't present any problems for you.

If the skates are on their way out I'd go with pair of S-12's. No point in wasting any more cash on them if their almost ready for replacement. The S-12 is my next skate when my 1300C's are finally done but I've had them for almost five years now and their still going strong. Had the S-11's briefly to replace the 1300's originally but I ditched them quick because of the tongue issue. The guy at the LHS was great and gave me my money back right away, probably because I do a lot of business with him. He said he had a lot come back because of the preformed tongues and he had them on clearance for less than half the price and still couldn't unload them. Some guy from a discount store came in a few weeks back and bought the twelve pairs he had left because he said he had some buyers for them. Well good luck to them. The S-12's have the felt tongues so to date I don't see any major issues with them and their a darn good skate for the money.

Also had the S11's and found that the tongues cut the hell out of the suspension straps on my Jofa shinnies. On a side note, the tongues slipping to the side may be due to a foot pronation problem.

I know a lot of guys wouldn't even consider the skates strictly because of the preshaped tongues. Not a good move on Eastons part and probably badly hurt their sales of that skate.
