Does instep = arch

Recommended Posts

When it says a skate accomadates a higher instep (ie Graf 705), are they speaking of the arch or are the instep and arch different?

They are closely related, but not the same. You can easily have a very low arch, but have a very thick instep. The instep is the area about around the 3-5 eyelets (from the top).

yeah, no arch, very low instep, double EE skates... still have a lot of pain in the foot... outside AND inside

boots too deep for your foot im guessing because when your lacing up your skate the lace goes down too far

Problem is likely that you have no arch support, which causes the sides your foot to be lower down in the boot, pressing against the sides of the boot. Get some kind of arch support under your foot and play around until it feels right. That should improve it alot.

There are two types of "flat feet," ones that collapse but otherwise arch normally (fallen/collapsing arches), and ones essentially without arches (true flat feet). It sounds like ajd has the latter, true flat feet. Having said that, adding arch support to a non-existent arch is only going to make matters worse. I have the same type of foot from the sounds of it, and high arches only suspend my toes above the front of the footbed so it's hard to push off properly. Not only that, it hurts pretty bad just to stand in the skates let alone move in them. If anything, a flatter footbed would be the way to go. That and/or heel lifts if you can't find a footbed flat enough for your skate and foot.

I'm not suggesting a high arch, justa bit of arch supprt to lift it up a small amount from the bottom of the skate. I also have completely flat feet (seriously no arch whatsoever) and without arch supports I would never survive. You can get arch supports for about $5 that yuo can cut to better fit your foot. I think they are worth a shot.
