2010 RBK 9k and 11k pants

Recommended Posts

Does anybody know the big difference between these two? The descriptions seem very similar except the 11k says shell/core setup, so what is the 9k? Standard pant, or two piece, or same as 11k minus some features?

Also curious, I tried a pair of RBK pants on at a local shop a couple weeks ago and loved them. Thing is they're pro returns from the Caps, and I couldn't see what model they were. In appearance they looked to me a lot like the 8ks from a couple/few years back, and they were definitely a 2 piece setup with the lowers attached via suspender buttons. Does anybody know what they were and where you can get them if at all? I would have got them, but the shop owner gave me a good deal for my trade in to get a pair of Tackla Air 9000s in maroon, which matches my fav team, the Hershey Bears, couldn't pass that up. I love the way the Tacklas felt too, both fit very good and snug at the waist, but the RBK was more bullet proof.

9k is a two piece set up also, much like the 11k but im sure there were some upgrades.

So the 2010 9k would be the same as prior 9ks, and the 2010 11k is an overall upgrade? Or is the 2010 11k like prior 9ks, and the 2010 9k a step down?

Looking at greatskate it only states the 11k as being a 2 piece, so after seeing that I'd assume the new 11k is based off the prior year 9k, and the new 9k is more like a prior year 7k, but with the zippered length adjustment.....?

I have some 9k's and it LOOKS like the only difference that I can see from those pics is the 11k def. has higher hip protection than the 9k's do.

Ok this is sorta on/sort off topic, but what is Reeboks highest end traditional pant for 2010? I've looked at their website and still can't really tell. It appears the 11k and 9k both have the 2-piece, thigh strapping/adjusting set up, no? Is the 7k a traditional pant then? Any help would be appreciated as I'm in the market for some new pants. BTW I like that Reebok/CCM are bringing back the lace-up front, classy.

These were the ones i tried on.

I think you are right with the zipper, as far as what was changed im also curious. Would be nice if it was lighter.

To me both the 9k and 11k look a little different from previous 9ks which is what you linked, you don't see the outer shell coming up and overlapping the core piece. And the 7k looks like the previous 7k with laces in place of the second belt.

I'm still curious if anybody has any idea what the pants may have been that I tried on at the shop (RBK), and if/where they can be found.

IMO if you considering the 11k for that price i would just go with the Tackla 5000x.

I'm just trying to figure the difference out, I'm happy with what I got, at least for a few more minutes.

From what I can see on RBKs website there is no mention about the new 9k being a 2 piece pant, just the 11k.

The only thing I dislike with my Tacklas is the tailbone pad could be a little bigger/solid. And I think they may be a size big, or I could be in between. I can lace them up that there is no gap showing the belly pad, but that's as tight as I can go, and I usually back it off so there is about 1/4-1/2 inch of belly pad showing between. I'm 6'1", weight 195 and wear a size 52, and I'm sure 50 would fit, possibly better, but I'm not in the market to find out till I tire/have issues with/or break what I have (not saying that wont happen anytime soon...).

One problem I have is sometimes when I get pants to fit in the waist, then they're a little short for my liking. Thats why I love the Tacklas, and thats why I got rid of the CCMs I had before. The CCM V10 in large was just a little to big in the waist, but just on the border of being right/too short in the leg. A medium would have been good for waist fit, but to short for me. Thats why I jumped on the Tacklas when I saw them cause I like the tight fit up top, and the extra length for the style.

I tried a large 9k on that a friend has and liked them in general though I'd have to tweak them to get real comfy, and it got me interested in checking out what the new ones look like.

If I were in the market for new pants, I'd probably look at RBK, Tackla, and Easton at this point, since I've heard from some people and experienced myself that CCM seem to run a bit small.

If you went with the tackla pro stock two piece they might have the mods you are looking for. TooOld and TBLfan might be able to fill you in, they each had a pair.

Maybe I'll do that. I remember buying my first shoulder pads from TBLfan and talking to him about elbow pads a couple years ago and he had plenty of good insight.

Yes those are the two piece.

There is also a one piece 5000 and 9000, no one is really better just different padding.

However i would contact them though and make they are made in Canada.

Yea I've seen a lot of talk about Canadian/Thailand, I know my Air 9000s are Thailand. Whats the major difference? Is it quality of build or different overall pant?

Yeah i would say he probably has the answer you are looking for, i know he was actually willing to part with a pair of TBL pro stocks on IW.

I can't really say because i haven't seen the Thailand ones, but ive tried on 5000 and 9000 and they are top quality.

And again all these questions with model number and country of production push me toward my 9k/11k question just to get away from all the confusion of "did I get what I thought I was getting?".

Still love what I have but I know sooner or later (usually with me sooner) I'll be wanting to try something else, either cause I land on my but and want something better there, or just want to try something else, and just looking at some of this stuff makes my head spin when you get into the details.

I went back to the shop today and picked up the RBK pants. Checked the inside label and they are model: 520. They're from CAPS training camp, and look like they were only worn a couple times, everything is in nice shape. The shell has a couple scuffs around the thighs, but only noticeable on close inspection. And the belly pad was removed. Besides that they look brand new.

Got them for $80.

Now I think I should be set for pants, not really that interested in the 9k and 11k anymore now that I have 2 really solid options to choose from. Unless I have some sort of epic hockey pant failure.

The new 9K are not 2 piece - the 11k's I believe are the 2 piece set up and have more plastic inserts for protections, which make the set up a little heavier but yet once on not a lot difference - the new 9k's are not too bulky or restrictive but yet have good amount of protection built into them - just bought a pair last night - quite an upgrade from my CCM set up - I added another piece of foam in the spine to give some extra added protection - already has molded spine protectoin and poly inserts in the tailbone area but I suffered a injury recently and added a bit more - very comfortable pants - happy with my purchase

How did you add the padding?

Used the current tailbone piece and just added a piece of foam to the back of it - just opened up the 'pocket' and added - it is not fully enclosed with stitching - there is a 3 inch gap to I guess(maybe) to remove tailbone peice for cleaning - but I used it to add the foam and remains hidden- -worked out great - it is a little bumpy right now until broken in - but I don't mind the piece touching my back for warmth - hopefully it will keep my back 'loose' throughout the game. Also the foam I used was a tailpiece from a old girdle - stiff piece of rigid foam cut to fit - fills half of the tail piece and all of the spine protector about 8 inches total added for my size - also I moved up in size for the RBK's - normally I wear a 36-38 - but RBK sizing in XL is 38-42 - feels the same because of the extra protection as a whole pant - bigger pads in the legs and hips and my addition feels perfect as if they were 36-38
