Bauer Supreme One80 Skates

Recommended Posts

Hi all, first post. I just bought the One70's for recreational skating, I unfortunately dont play hockey and just enjoy skating. I couldnt find any discussions anywhere online about the one60/70/80 skates from people who've actually used them since they are so new so I figured Id start a thread. They should be on my doorstep when I get home today, and if they fit correctly Ill be using them tonight. I wont have access to the internet over the weekend probably, so Ill post my first thoughts on monday with pics to follow eventually. Im really excited to try these out, I had tried on some 9D vapors and the fit wasnt great for me (too big @ ankles) as I have very skinny ankles and narrow feet. I was told the supremes are narrower in the heel/ankle and slightly wider in the foot which allowed me to choose a smaller size to hopefully get a nice ankle fit while not crushing my foot. I wear a 10.5 shoe and chose an 8.5D skate.

Feel free to discuss and post pics of your new supreme skates!

Well it turns out the 8.5's were a little big, so Im going to return them and upgrade to the one80's in an 8D. They'll be here on wednesday, so Ill have another update then. The one70's looked and felt great though, the materials were very nice. More to come.

EDIT: Just checked my dress shoes, they average a size 10, could explain why 8.5 was slightly large.

MODS, could you please change title to one80 instead of one70? Is there a way I can do this myself?

Hey, I just wanted to know how much the One 80's and One 70's were. I was thinking of picking them up, but instead got the Rbk 10k for 400. I dunno still if it was the better deal.

If the 10ks fit you awesomely you got a better deal, unless you could have found the one80s for ~350ish. The one80s should be right around 400USD. I'd hate to be canadien, so much money on everything. The one80 is a hell of a skate, anyone who gets it should be very satisfied.

Yeah, it sucks to be in Canada. I mean our prices are so much. But I really think I struck gold with my 10k's. It seemed like a really good price and the fit is crazy.

Can someone post a link to these 10k's? I can't find them anywhere online. I thought the new reebok line was 11k, then 9k, then 7k?

Actually, I couldn't find them online either. But if you go on www.prohockeylife.com then they show the new 8k skates. But I think it goes 11k, 10k, 8k, 7k white...I'm not sure though.

The one80's I got were $400 USD from hockeymonkey, they will arrive on wednesday. Raganblink, they are "one hell of a skate"!! Cant wait to get them. I was hesitant to upgrade to them from the 70's, but I figured its a one time cost, why not do it right. Im thinking of just baking them in my home oven and saving the cash. Ive read up on it and it seems like if you use any shred of common sense you cant mess it up. The tag on the skates said to only bake for 2 minutes at (I think) 175F in the bauer oven. Any success stories here about home baking?

I forgot to mention that I was surprised at how little padding skates have in them. I used to use rental skates at a rink in pittsburgh, and their rentals had monstrous amounts of padding that locked my skinny ankle in place perfectly and felt as comfortable as running shoes. I bought some eastons a couple years back that had literally half as much as the rentals had. Same thing for the one70's I just returned. Why dont companies add more padding? Is my surprise due to my really skinny/weak ankles which causes me to need the extra support?

The reason they don't add more padding is because it doesn't offer a secure fit because it isn't rigid. Its great for public skate, horrible for hockey. The Higher end skates are stiff as a brick, and allow you to not really flex your leg in the skate. I'm sure with the rentals you could go side to side because all there was padding, and nothing to keep that padding in place. Also there is a weight factor with it that they eliminate with the packaging they offer in the higher end skates.

But yeah, you'll love these skates. Its totally worth it over the one70s, because you get ls2 steel, lighter skate, and IIRC was it a better quarter package?

Yes better materials all around except for the tounge and footbed I believe. The thing with the rentals is that it kept me from "ankle burning" at ALL, like 0% sideways bend. It was the best Ive ever skated, and I skated very hard. Granted I weighed around 140 at the time due to my age which probably kept me from really testing out the stiffness of the skate. The extra padding just takes up negative space which is great, but I guess its more my ankle size than anything that makes me want more padding.

Ok, so knowing that baking is not required but speeds up break in, do you all think it would be wise to save some money and do a safe-temp home bake? By safe-temp I mean ~150F for 2-3 mins. I would use place them on a towel on a cookie sheet to prevent cosmetic damage - one boot at a time. The lower temp would reduce the effectiveness of the baking, but would not harm anything and would be an extra safety precaution.

Sound safe???

Hey dude, go onto youtube and search up "icehockeywarehouse". If you look around, they have a video on how to bake your skates at home. According to my friend, it works. You should probably try that.

Just talked to some know-it-all kid at my local pro shop and he was telling me that he never ever bakes any of his skates because he feels they are broken in after 2-3 skate sessions and there's no need. Is this kid just cocky or can this really be the case? He even told me not to waste money getting mine baked there haha...

Well, that is his own opinion.. but with the newer skates they are more thermoformable. The new supreme line is definitely all about a 360 fit with the skates getting baked to get that really perfect fit.

I dunno what to say about him. Many of today's products are designed to give you great fit from thermoforming. Take the Total Ones, CCM U+ and Rbk 11k series. Even the quarter packages of today's market are made to wrap around and fit your foot. i'd go with baking them.

Well, they arrived and they fit very well. A tad long, as my toes dont quite brush the toe cap but other than that they feel very good. I got them sharpened (the kids at the shop loved em haha) and baked them at home and it worked pretty well. Going on the ice tomorrow to try them out!

One thing that is kind of weird is that though the skates are size 8, the footbed inserts say "7 1/2" on them... Im confused. They do seem slightly loose inside the boot. I wonder if there was a mistake somewhere???

I gotta say that the baking for 2 minutes just didnt seem very effective. They were slightly warm, nowhere close to hot especially inside the boot which had hardly warmed up at all. I dont understand the "no more than 2 minutes or damage!!" warning that came with the skates. Granted I baked them at 150 instead of 175 for safety's sake, it shouldnt have made THAT much of a difference.
