Hypothetical Shipping Question

Recommended Posts

So I'm considering buying a stick from a shop in Toronto, but I really don't want to pay $30+ US for shipping. For you guys who have shipped sticks to the West Coast before, about how much did it cost? Its it significantly cheaper than the $30+ I was quoted? Thanks.

$15ish. Kind've depends on whether the people at Canada post want to be dicks or not.

I think Canada post has an "estimated package delivery" feature on the site too.

call or visit UPS website and ask them to quote you a price. roughly estimate the dimensions, you could have the stick shipped collect with UPS if their price is lower.

I recently got a few quotes to ship a stick from Toronto to the southern U.S. and it was pretty consistenly around Cdn$25-$30 and up across the board, including Canada Post. DHL ended up costing the same as Canada Post and got it there in two days by air, versus Canada Post where they said it would take something like 7-10 days ground. Some shops I persume can get better deals than an individual can.

Be careful on the shipping company. I got ripped off from a certain Toronto store who failed to tell me about additional duty fees ($50 in addition to the $30 shipping fees). I've also ordered from Goalie Heaven and have never had this problem. Make sure they don't use a courier and broker.

Good point - I received something via UPS not to long ago coming from the U.S. and got dinged like $25 extra on brokerage handling fees payable COD.

UPS is a scam. I built a dirtbike from ebay last year and anytime they sent to me UPS I got seriously hammered on shipping and brokers fees. To give you an idea:

Won handguards on ebay (used) for $27 US. They were sent in a shoe box. Shipping was $20 us and brokers fees were $21 CAN.

Pathetic.

Yeah UPS is a joke with their brokering fees.. I live in Canada and bought skates from the US.. Got them for 229.99US.. Then got nailed $90 CDN for brokering fees plus taxes on the 229.99.. Not only did it turn out to be more expensive then my LHS, i had to wait 3 week

Technically I believe you should, but they never seem to check USPS. I've had sticks, gloves and possibly even skates (I didn't flip the bill, so I don't know if it came USPS) delivered and never payed anything on it. Only time I had something delivered by non-Canpost/USPS they tried to make me pay duties.
