RBK 8K Ice hockey skates - 2010 model

Recommended Posts

Just saw these on a couple of websites. Appears to be a much nicer version of the 2009 8K however the sizes start at 9E and go up from there??

You would think the 2010 model would be easily available in more sizes.

As i said much nicer than the older versions major difference is that it now has a white felt tongue.

Any one have any info on the 2010 RBK 8K's???

Thanks

They're available in everything, the places you've been looking probably don't have their stock in yet. Wait another month or so and you'll see your LHSs and internet have it in full stock.

As for the skate? Its a really great skate. Reebok this year I think has been offering skates that should be like 50 dollars higher than what they are selling them for (IE your 400 dollar skate should be like 450 - your getting more value for your dollar). They're trying to knock Bauer off its tower and selling a lot of great value skates. If these work for you (fit wise and all that) you'll be very happy with the result. BTW the 8k hasn't been available since I believe 2007 as "new". There wasn't a 2009 model that I am aware of, and I thought in 2008 there wasn't either. The '10 model is above and beyond those.

Thanks for the info. Appears to be a really nice skate at a good price.

I almost pulled the trigger on a pair of new leftover 9K's, my only hesitation is that I did not like the tongue on the 9k. Other than the tongue I have heard nothing but great things about them. My main concern is fit, tried a pair on at my LHS and they were very confortable. I can get over the tongue issue but then I stumbled on the new 8k surfing the web.

Any idea of the differences between the new 8k and the previuos 9k model other than the tongue? Weight? materials etc?

Thanks again

Those are the differences. Basically the new 8k is like the first gen 9K... Pretty heavy compared to the 08 (latest black) and 09 (white ones) 9Ks. If you can find 9ks at the same price or cheaper than the 8Ks, I would get the 9ks.

My local Sport Chek has the 8K for $400 and the 9K for $379. Pretty random considering that the 9K was the top of the line last year, and now it's cheaper than what appears to be a not-so-top of the line skate.

But then again, that's the same place that has the S11 for $399.

I believe there was an 8K 2009 Skate. IIRC it was an SMU for The Hockey Group. Peranis and Monkey carried it.

Well that definately aint right. Theyre supposed to be prices $399 for 8k and $499 for 9k at sportchek. Maybe they messed up.

Well it's not the white 9K...Still shouldn't be over $100 difference though...

Also they had the black SE16s there for $350, which seemed half-decent.

I thought that too and I went to 3 other sport cheks to see and pro hockey life and the 9k's were cheaper then the 8k.

So is the opinion that the 9k is a better skate than the new 2010 version of the 8K?

Price point of the new 8k is said to be $299, I can get the last years 9k for $329. The $30 bucks is not a big deal and I would prefer the better, lighter skate of the two despite the 9k tongue.

What do you all think?

Thanks

Correct. If you can get 9ks under 350 (unless its first gen) it is the best deal to take if you are looking at that price range. Depending on the price of the 9ks, I'd take those over the 10Ks aswell.

Nevermind i was wrong. I went to work today and the 9k is actually on sale, so the price is lower than the 8k. But regular price should be $499 for 9k whites, and $399 for 8k.

Thanks again for the feedback...big help, Definately going for the 9k's.

One last question....how can you tell if a pair of 9k's are the 09 version or an earlier version or 1st generation etc ?

Well the white ones are newer, and at the Sport Check where I saw them there was a sign that actually said second generation or something.

I don't know, but go for the white ones!

there have been 4 main versions of this skate. The first one looks nearly all black, heavy as hell in comparision. The second one is white and looks horrible compared to the 09 version. The 3rd gen is the black one with a really skinny tongue, this is what crosby is using. And the 4th one is the flashy white ones.

The white ones will probably be more expensive everywhere, then the 3rd gen black ones will be less expensive. Honestly though, you probably don't have to worry about getting scammed for 1st or 2nd gen ones. We''ve been sold out of those for like 2 years. I'd imagine most of the rest of the world is too.

Raganblink,

Thanks a lot for the great info. The 3rd gen with the skinny tongue is what I am looking at and will pull the trigger on.

Thanks to everyone else for all their input as well.
