Stick blade wear: Sport court vs Ice

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I just started playing roller on sport court in Canada. I also play ice at the same time. I have two dolomite shafts. I'm considering spending some money on tapered blades instead of using my ice hockey sticks (CCM U+s and sometimes Trilages). I'm definitely not as comfortable with the dolomites and I really want to use what I'm comfortable with on ice.

I your opinion, what is the stick wear of sport court compared with ice? Does Sport court wear on stick blades any more than ice at all?

Thanks guys

Played a tournament on sport court never retaped the blade at all. Played a tournament in Hong Kong and the whole team was taping their blades between shifts.

Here is somethin' for ya.

The rink I play at has been Sport Court forever. I would NEVER wear through the tape on my blade. It was great.

Now, they just installed Ice Court. That TEARS it up. The tape wears through every game and I just don't like it. Oh well.

Been playing on Sport Court for over a decade and 95% of the wear on the bottom of my blades has come from practices at other non-Sport Court rinks. It's very forgiving on the bottom of blades as long as the tiles were installed properly and smoothly and don't have any large differences in height at the edges.

I play inline on sport court and never tape the bottom of my blade. Use 1 strip of renfrew fat tape on the forehand and backhand of the blade. My blades on my 2 primary sticks are still in great shape. I actually prefer the feel without taping the blade on sport court, my stick handling is smoother.

I'll also add that sport cour puts very little wear on blades. The same as or less than ice. You don't have to deal with water getting in the blade, and the puck is lighter, so there's less force on the blade making it last longer.

I always use to seperate sticks for ice and roller, even if they the exact same model and brand. If I go right from an ice game to an inline game, the little bit of dampness on the tape makes handling the inline puck feel weird.

Been playing with the same stick on sports court for the last 4 years, and there's not a single bit of wear on the bottom of the blade. My other stick that I use on other concrete rinks however...

Been skating on sport court for a while and the blade doesn't wear at all. I use my Nike Bauer One85 and there are no signs of wear at all on the blade or even the tape.

I play on both and I don't really notice much of a difference as far as wear. The blade should wear similar on both surfaces. However, you may want to consider using a street style blade for the sport court and use a composite for ice. A two-piece stick would be ideal for this option, but a composite or something similar would work for both. If you do use the same stick for roller and ice, make sure to use wax after taping your stick for ice. This will make the tape and blade last longer, give better grip on the puck, and prevent any damage from moisture.
