Chara curve...

I see that easton has a chara curve available now. I remember JR saying it was a 1/2" mid 5 lie or something like that. Seems more or less similar to an iginla, does anyone have a pic of it yet as none of the LHS have it?

its more or less similar to the heatley, but with a round toe.

there are "pics" in the easton catalogue in the equipment section of this site.

Bringing this topic back because on Hockey Monkey, they have the Chara listed under the Gaborik on the pattern chart. Not sure if this is laziness or not but is this going to be the new Gaborik curve or the rounded Heatley? I remember also on this board someone went to a total hockey or some LHS and said the Chara looked like a Gaborik, thoughts?

Yep, that was me. All the Chara curves on the Easton ST sticks at my local Total Hockey store (physical location of the website) were revised versions of the Gaborik. Same curve and overall profile, they just trimmed that odd little point on the underside of the toe.

sorry to ask questions about the same curve in multiple threads, but this is where my chara questions belonged in the first place. how is the lie of the chara? the yzerman and gaborik were different lies, id heard somewhere someone thought and read above it was a 5, and im really hoping not. if its higher im getting one. has anyone who has actually held one noticed?

I'll be kind of disappointed if they changed the toe profile on the Gaborik, I used to use the Yzerman religiously and honestly loved that toe profile (however ridiculous it looked lol).

A lot of what we've been hearing is that the lie will be 5.5, though I would love to see a 6.

Resurrecting this topic because my question deals directly with comparing the Roy and Chara curves...I asked this question in another thread a month or so ago, but it got buried:

What curve would be considered 'deeper'...

The Chara at 3/4' across 19mm, or the Roy 3/5' across 15mm?

To the naked eye it's really difficult to say. Anyone with an opinion?

I want to go back to a deep mid. I think I do prefer the Gaborik/Roy but the downside is that it's only offered on the S19, which feels super small to me and I've never had much success with.

I compared both at TotalHockey a few months back (like 6 months ago)... The Roy felt like it had a higher lie, less rocker (or more square of a heel) and a more square toe right off the bat.

The Roy did seem deeper to me - but compared to the toe curve I was using at the time - still felt like a mid-heel rather than a true deep mid. The Chara felt even more heel-like to me. Both patterns were closed as can be.

Other than the overall shape/profile/silhouette of the blade - I don't think one would have a hard time noticing the different between the two if you could adjust to the lie.

PS - both patterns were also available in the Synergy ST as well as the S19 at TotalHockey.

Yeah, the Roy is listed as at 6 lie and the Chara at 5 lie. What's twisting me up is that they each have characteristics that I like, but neither has them all...if that makes any sense. Example, I prefer a 5 lie, but with very minimal rocker.

I may go with the Roy on an ST. I've been reading user reviews here on the ST, and I think it might be worth a look.

its actually a discontinued curve now. i have 2 chara eq50's that i just bought since they wont be available on the new models. furthermore it doesnt look like easton is re-naming the chara either...

if i had to compare it to another pattern i would say the coffee is the closest but the chara has rounded toe corners unlike the pointy bottom on the coffee
