What to expect at the NHL draft...

I forgot I had taken these photos.

The five from the rink were at the Toyota Center on the day before the Draft. I believe the skate was for a program that exposes hockey to inner city kids. I saw some guy walk on the ice to take pictures with his iPhone, so I said, "Screw it, I'm going out too!"

The two with the Cup were in Phil Pritchard's hotel room. We had gone back to the bar at the hotel, where the guy second from the left on the top (Norm Flynn) started a conversation with Gouche (middle in bottom). Suddenly the guy yells, "Kerry Goulet! Unbelievable!!" They had played together on the University of Manitoba team, yet hadn't seen each other for at least 27 years. The funny thing is Kerry had planned to get in touch with Norm, because Norm started a program called Heroes, which also is meant to expose hockey to inner city kids. Their program has spread throughout Canada and even into Ireland. These guys also knew Phil, so Phil was cool enough to invite us to his hotel room. I've had chances to take pictures with the Cup, but there's something neat about being able to do it away from the crowds.

I had just assumed the black gentleman was part of their organization, but he was just hanging out with them that night. The ring on his finger is a Super Bowl ring. All I know is the guy's name was R.J., he's currently from Texas, and he played with the Raiders during their SB year of 2002.
