Coloring Nylon gloves..

Recommended Posts

I've not tried it; at that price I'd see if Warrior can make a pair for you instead of trying to use RIT.

I'm still hoping for Warrior (or someone) to do a full custom sublimated glove. Maybe I need to start playing with this...

I'm actually about 4-5 days ahead of you on that one. This is the response I got from them (Guy I regularly talk to is a pretty solid human):

To answer your question, unfortunately the AK isn’t customizable, primarily because of the details involved with the sublimated print. We tried to find a way for it to be semi-customizable but, unfortunately the demand just wasn’t there. The only option for this glove would be the stock colors listed online.

I got to try on the AK27 Pro glove, the fit is very nice, and it feels very mobile. But, besides the Montreal colored glove, I really do not like the look of the glove. Thus, the idea of trying RIT Dye.

That being said, If you ever want a tester to try out a prototype I would be happy to oblige. Just Saying... :)

So I have an opportunity to buy a pair of warrior franchises for cheap money, but they have a carbon pinky and cuff that is a terrible color-- So my question is, Is it possible to black the carbon out and if so, what would I use?

I used an acrylic paint marker on my leather gloves and it works well but it rubs off pretty quick so I always have to re-touch them. My marker was silver and my gloves were black buy I don't know why it wouldn't work the other way around (guessing you have Penguins gloves ahah)

This one would work out fine I think

I just wanted to add that you guys might also consider that even if you decide to dye a certain part of the glove, the dye color may not match (too dark/light) and you will have to dye the whole thing to match the colors up evenly. The real problem will arise when you want to keep some of the sublimated design, but have to painstakingly dye around it in order to keep the coloring even. Just a thought.

I just use a permanent marker (Sharpie worked ok, but wanted to use something stronger) on my Bauer 4 Rolls - looks pretty legit. Have to re-apply some bits after every five sessions or so, but that doesn't bother me too much. Will post a photo...

I had very good success with using a spray-on opaque fabric paint and masking off the areas that I did not want to receive paint:

How is the finish standing up for you? Have you had to re-apply at all?

I'm happy with it. After about 10 games, I can very faintly see some of the old color showing through on the edges, but that's where I did not get very good coverage the first time around. I think that if I was more meticulous with the edges it would hold up better.

I figured, I may as well share this with you guys. Soo I got another pair of nylon gloves from a friend. Navy blue again. I wanted to color them black with the stronger permanent markers. At first, it turned out terribly. However, I also washed them(the smelt like crap) and when I dried them, they were fully black. Like you wouldn't be able to tell a difference. Pretty weird, but it worked.

Anyone use RIT or leather dye on Eagle portofino gloves?

I have a pair of 4 yr old X70s that Ive been in the process of blacking out for about two years ha. They are mostly black with the yellow cuff roll and print. Im trying to black out all of the yellow. Not sure how helpful this is to anyone, but what I've found through trial and error is that sharpie is ok, but not great. I think it really depends on the color you are trying to cover. On the yellow a few coats of sharpie looked good for about a week, then turned purple, then brown, and eventually a shit yellow started to show through. Bottom line...time consuming and not really worth the effort. I used electrical tape pretty successfully, but Im planning on a permanent fix.

I'll try to take some pictures of the dying process if I decide to go through with it.

Tried leather dye on the portofino eagles. In retrospect, a horrible idea. The dye just rolls right off the treated surface and the material wont absorb the dye at all.
