foot sliding issue

Recommended Posts

I'm a bit lost as to why this is happening, and would really appreciate if anybody could shed any light on this:

I was always size 9D in Bauers, last 2 years skated in One95 with no issues

recently got TotalOne is the same size 9D, but somehow it feels different:

when I lacing up & kick my heel back my toes aren't even close to touching the toe cup

but as soon as I stand up both feet seem to slide forward quite a bit to a point that my longest toe (the big toe) is tight against the cup, while I feel there's some room being created in the heel causing slight heel movement.

Why do you think this might be happening? Is it indication of more volume in the skate, or too much length or what?!

I did report before that due to the new liner T1s feel quite a bit roomier then One95, but theoretically nothing should have changed from One95 - I even still use the same insoles (yellow superfeet)?

:(

help please!

Maybe you're not lacing them up tight enough down low.

cranking as tight as I can (all eyelets except the top one), and I use waxed laces too!

but now when I think about it even after that there's still some wiggle room left so it really sounds like maybe there's too much volume?

Maybe, have you done the pencil test. Or they could just be overall too big. Try putting the skates on, but dont tie them and push foot all the way to the front and see how many fingers you can fit behind your heel.

This post may sound silly, but I'm going to take a stab. One time I had a pair of shoes that were too large so I lined the toe cap with cotton balls. The cotton balls compressed and formed a pretty solid barrier between my toes and the cap. Has anyone ever tried something similar with skates? It would seem to be futile because skates perform a much greater range of motions than shoes (e.g., turning), but it may help for taking the size issue off your mind?

That means they are too long. You need the next size down.

If your skate fits properly, you don't even need to lace them at all.

You're polishing a turd at that point, but it may help prevent some of the sliding.

When buying skates always try them on until you find a size that is too small, then go back up. Ignore the numbers or what you usually wear. Those things don't matter, only the fit matters.

all these things went through my head when I was trying T1s on, but I reverted to 'the usual stuff' & ignored them..

I just checked & I can stick a short regular thickness pencil (1/4") right behind my heel (at the bottom only - a long pencil broke in half since up top it's tight enough). I was able to put .5 size skate on & it didn't feel that bad so maybe that's my answer right there...

so does it mean that sliding back-forth is attributed to lenght issues?

could it be also the size of the heel pocket? ie if it's narrow then even though there's some room lenght wise (like in my case apparently there is), but the heel wouldn't go any further due to width limitations unless it's forced in (like on kicking back but then it doesn't stay that way)?

so how do you determine proper fit? when you're kicking heel back lacing should the toes still be brushing the toecup then?

I understand that when getting into the athletic position with knees bent the toes pull back slightly, but how does it suppose to feel in a normal relaxed position then?
