Easton EQ50 Gloves

Recommended Posts

Now a glove like the Eq50, it looks great, protective, mobile. Doesn't have the popular mesh gussets but that can always be replaced.

Why wouldn't a pro use such a glove? Are pro-stocks always so much significantly better than retail?

What would be changed in a pro-stock Eq50?

What is it about a 100 Dollar retail glove that wouldn't fly with the players at the pro level?

There is a $100 glove that flys in the pros... Bauer 4 Rolls.

Edit: I'd also like to say that the EQ50 is not a very mobile glove. The cuff is very tight around the wrist. Pretty comfortable though.

In regards to Easton pro stocks, I've always been a little confused. Here's what I've been able to gather (and please correct me if I'm wrong):

The retail E-Pro is loosely based on Easton's pro four-roll gloves. But Easton has multiple four-rolls. I've seen Synergy 500s, 800s, SE6s, SE16s, EQ3s and EQ5s. If I had to guess, based on what I've found available for purchase, the 800s are the most common. The pro stocks are all branded E-Pro, no matter what glove they actually are (which also includes older Z-Airs). All the Easton pro stocks I've tried feel pretty similar. I would guess that Easton typically takes a retail model, makes the exterior nylon or Tufftek, cleans up the graphics, throws on their silver liner and slaps on the E-Pro branding. Interesting to note that Easton used to brand all their pro gloves Synergy, regardless of what the actual glove was.

Just picked up the EQ50's at Great Skate. I'm coming from the S19 gloves and they feel similar. The EQ50 thumb does not bend as easily as the S19. But I weighed them and the EQ50 is slightly lighter than the S19. Can't wait to try them out on the ice. They sure look good though. Not overstated at all like the S19 graphics.

How have the EQ50s worked out for you after a few months use? I'm considering buying them as they seem quite protective, and I like the adjustable cuff to protect my wrists.

I've had my EQ50's for about 2 months, I play 4-5 nights a week. They're pretty decent gloves. Palms have a decent feel to them, I have no complaints over than the stiff thumb.

Bought the EQ50s this afternoon from my LHS and played in a game with them tonight. Extremely nice fit, easy to wear right out of the box. I extended the cuff to it's maximum length, which allowed me to skip wearing the slash guards as the extended cuff reached up to my elbow pads. Total arm protection in a very comfortable package. No problems handling the puck at forward (goal and assist in a 4-3 loss), and took a bunch of shots from different angles, in traffic and in the clear. Noticed a slash on a face off, but didn't feel it at all. Really like the palm overlay, the black being a firm goat leather over the softer light Nash material. Did not feel stiff at all, just felt like I was well protected. I've been pretty happy with Easton gear (elbow pads, shin guards, pants), and the EQ50s were everything I expected them to be. Highly recommend this product at this point ... will see how they hold up in the coming months.

Picked up a pair of these gloves a couple of months ago. Thought I would post my thoughts. I was waffling between these and last year's Franchises which were on sale for thirty bucks more. I have been avoiding paying top dollar for gloves in the attempt to find something that was still plenty comfortable and protective. Decided the best thing was to go to the higher end since that wasn't working for me-there were always some issues especially with comfort. I found the Franchises rubbed my pinky in an uncomfortable way when I closed my hand. Hard to explain but not the butter smooth comfort I would want with top of the line gloves. No slight on Franchises- just not right for my hands. I tried the EQ50's and they were immediately comfortable right off the bat. The adjustable cuff was nice and allows me to tweak the length of the cuff so it doesn't get in the way of my elbow pads. The nash palm is soft and flexible but the leather overlays along the index finger area adds what I guess will be more durability without sacrificing the flexibility. These gloves feel niiiiiice! Most comfortable glove I have ever put on right from the store. In terms of protection I have taken a couple of whacks on the hand with no issues but nothing major. I will report on the protection issue as it happens. So far, I am very pleased. I would recommend that folks try these on if they get a chance.
