NHL changes rule for standings tie-breakers

Recommended Posts

I like it, but what I'd really like to see is a points system that gives a priority to regulation wins. Maybe something like 3 points for a regulation win, 2 points for OT/shootout, and 1 point for reaching OT. I'm not sure if those would be the best allocation of points, but I imagine teams would reach the 3/4 point of the season and realize they have to pick up every available point, even when against teams in their own conference, so they'll take more chances to earn the regulation win.

And that would be to easy for the NHL to do because some old timer in the NHL old boys club(Sinden, Snider, to name a few) would get upset since the records for most points in a season would become meaningless. As if that isn't already a meaningless record/statistic to most everyone now. Sometimes the NHL looks towards the past too much and not into the future as much as they think currently are.
