Graf 707 Vs 709

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have experience with the Graf 707 or 709 skate? I am looking for a new pair of skates. I have a relative high instep with a wide heel. The Easton S11's were disappointing, feels like the boot is to stiff and i cant get a good knee bend because i cant bend my ankle much without the skate digging into leg because it has no give. I would also be open to the more modern versions the G7/G9. Your opinions are much appreciated.

I believe the difference between the 707 & 709 is the 709 is wider & deeper.

The G7 & G9 would be a similar fit (707-G7 & 709-G9). The G series are made with different materials.

I'm sure others who wear the skates will give you a better idea of how they perform & feel.

Oh, welcome aboard.

707 has a very soft ankle and the 709 is very tall and stiff. They are about as different as you can get in terms of stiffness.

709-G70

The 707/G7 also has a slightly tighter heel and is not quite as deep.

I have 709s and they are really stiff. I got them at a Pro sale, though, so it's possible they have custom specs. My foot is wide and tall over the top so the extra volume helps.

How long have you had your S11s? Do they just need to break in some more for flex?

At first i thought maybe i just need to break them in but after i have had them for a while im starting to think its because the boot it cut to high and because the composite material wont soften like leather i dont think its going to get much better. The only part of the skate thats causing pain is the top inch of the boot when i push off with my stride it digs into the side of the leg. My old skates (CCM 1152) were cut lower around the ankle and i never had this problem. How is the boot height on the 709s?

I've never had any problems with the boot height, but I can't say I've noticed with any of my old skates either. The LHS employees or skate fitters on here might be able to answer that question better than I can.

Have you tried leaving the top eyelet open? Here's an old thread with some info. For the record, I lace all the way to the top and my shins go outside my tongue.

Does anyone have first hand experience with the ankle flexibility/stability of the 707? I know its supposed to be more flexible im just wondering how much.

stiff around the foot, very little, if any, stiffness in the ankle. I prefer the mobility, but not many people do

How is the ankle support?

Sorry to hi-jack, the only skates that fit me are Synergys in W and Flexlites in EE, is it the 709's which have a wide forefoot?

The 709 has wide everything. One of if not the deepest/widest skate on the market.

You really need to try them on. With graf you have width, volume (heel to top of foot), and heel width. It's really a semi custom fit it you can try them all on. regarding the 709... if you get the right width they will feel similar with a slightly wider heel. This is my impression when I tried the 709's.

+1 right on here, I have 709's great skates I really love how they have held up the 707s are def for a very strong skater I would not recomend them without a good walk around. If the 707's fit you properly there is little to no chance the 709's will very different everything coming from the s11's the 709 would be fairly close also the 705's they would have a smaller heel and youd prol need a wide and yes the 705's in a wide still fit more narrow than a 709 in a d width in my opp.
