number21 3 Report post Posted September 22, 2010 I am defiantly going to try and go to a game again this year. I've only been to one Badger game, but it was pretty great.I would love to make it to their annual MSU (my Alma mater) game but I am usually traveling to see family around the T-giving time.I do love that they show re-broadcasts on the Wisconsin PBS! GoBucky 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2010 Amen to that. Ive got season tickets to both the mens' and womens' games and Im really looking foreward to hockey season. The mens' team probably wont be very good this year (they will have a very young, inexperienced team) but the women should be pretty good this year. Some are even saying they could contend for another NCAA championship. Last year was a tough one for the ladies because they lost their coach and many of their best players to the olympics. With those people back, hopefully they can get back into championship form.

GoBucky 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2010 Oh...LOL...my bad. Yeah, you're pretty much screwed on that one. Id love to be at that game too and normally I probably would be, but I'll be in the D.C. area that weekend.http://www.uwbadgers.com/sports/w-hockey/spec-rel/092210aaa.htmlThe University of Wisconsin women’s hockey team has been picked to finish second in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, according to a preseason poll of league coaches.Wisconsin earned 43 points and two first place votes in a poll of the eight head coaches in the WCHA. Defending national champions Minnesota Duluth was selected to win the WCHA title, earning 48 points and six first place votes. Minnesota was picked to finish third with 37 points.Ohio State was selected to finish fourth, followed by North Dakota, Bemidji State, St. Cloud State and Minnesota State.Hopefully they are right and the ladies will bounce back from last season. Finishing 4th in the WCHA and not even making the NCAA playoffs was a huge disappointment after all the success the ladies have had recently. Its tough going from winning the NCAA championship in '09 to not even making the playoffs in '10.Im hoping that the ladies dominate the WCHA and then roll all the way to their 4th NCAA championship! GoBucky 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2010 http://www.uwbadgers.com/sports/m-hockey/spec-rel/092710aab.htmlThe 2010-11 USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine men's hockey preseason rankings were released on Monday, September 27, and the Wisconsin men found themselves at 13.The Badgers finished last season ranked number 2 after posting a 28-11-14 record and finishing as the NCAA runner-up. After losing 10 players from last year's squad, and replacing them with 10 new freshmen, the Badgers fell in the rankings due to the uncertainty of how this year's squad will react to all the new faces. tjl_48 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2010 SCSU and UMD are ahead of UM, CC, UW and Denver. Seems like the rankings are backwards from what they usually are in the WCHA. Will definitely be an interesting season.
GoBucky 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2010 IMO, this year its NoDak's turn to run the WCHA. They are #2 in the preseason rankings. They should have a good chance to win the NCAA championship in the last year of the, "fighting Sioux" name.
tjl_48 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2010 I hope so. If they can stay health and play to there potential they got the team. Just as long as they don't dig themselves a hole early on like they normally do under Hak.

tjl_48 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2010 Agreed. Hard to believe they haven't won it in 10 years when they have had guys like Parise, Zajac, Oshie, and Toews pass through. I'm staying positive. This is the year.
GoBucky 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2010 Agreed. Hard to believe they haven't won it in 10 years when they have had guys like Parise, Zajac, Oshie, and Toews pass through. I'm staying positive. This is the year.It would be the perfect year for the, "fighting Sioux" name to go out in a blaze of glory. As a Badger fan, it should be no big surprise that I wouldnt mind seeing them fail but we shall see. Honestly, Id be happy as long as a school that doesnt have the word, "Boston" in the school's name wins it.http://www.uwbadgers.com/sports/w-hockey/spec-rel/092810aac.htmlThe University of Wisconsin women’s hockey team is ranked No. 5 in both the USCHO.com preseason national poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine preseason national rankings.Wisconsin earned 87 points to land at No. 5 in the USCHO.com poll, trailing Minnesota Duluth, Cornell, Mercyhurst and Minnesota in the top four, respectively. The Badgers picked up 115 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, and UW is the highest-ranked team that ended the 2009-10 season unranked. Its looking like it will be an interesting season for the ladies! GoBucky 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2010 http://www.uwbadgers.com/sports/w-hockey/This-Week-in-W-Hockey.htmlThe No. 5 Wisconsin women's hockey team opens the 2010-11 season this weekend, hosting Rensselaer Polytechnic at the Kohl Center on Friday and Saturday nights. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. both games.Friday's game marks the first-ever meeting between UW and RPI in women's hockey. The last time the Badgers faced an ECAC Hockey opponent was when UW defeated Dartmouth, 7-0, in the 2009 NCAA Regional contest. Wisconsin is 18-7-1 all-time against ECAC Hockey teams.Under the direction of head coach John Burke, RPI returns 15 letterwinners from a 2009-10 team that went 16-15-6 overall and tied for fifth in ECAC Hockey with an 11-7-4 league record. The Engineers return two goaltenders from a year ago, including senior Sonja van der Bliek, who posted a 15-15-5 record with a 1.85 goals against average - which ranked 12th among Division I goalies - last season. In addition to stopping 817 of 884 shots for a .924 save percentage, she recorded 30 or more saves in five games, including two contests with 40+ stops.Rensselaer returns nine forwards, led by senior captain Kendra Dunlop. She tallied nine goals with 12 assists for 21 points in 2009-10. Dunlop scored a goal and assisted on two others as RPI fell just short of erasing a four-goal deficit in the final period, falling to eventual NCAA runner-up Cornell, 5-4.RPI has made appearances in three of the last four ECAC Hockey Playoffs and looks to earn the program's first trip to the NCAA Tournament this season. It should be an interesting series, but I think UW wins both games. RPI is a quality team, but IMO the Badgers just have too much depth and too much talent.
GoBucky 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2010 http://www.uwbadgers.com/sports/w-hockey/recaps/100210aaa.htmlThe No. 5 University of Wisconsin women’s hockey team scored five goals in the first period en route to a 7-0 season-opening victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic at the Kohl Center on Friday night.Wisconsin (1-0-0) received two goals apiece from junior Carolyne Prevost (Sarnia, Ontario) and freshman Brittany Ammerman (River Vale, N.J.). Sophomore Brianna Decker (Dousman, Wis.) led the team with three points on three assists.“It is nice to have a game under our belt,” head coach Mark Johnson said. “The whole object of this thing is to try and get better for tomorrow night’s game and continue that form for next weekend. Overall, there were a lot of good things. We did make some mistakes, but we seemed to recover.”Great performance by the ladies last night. RPI never knew what hit 'em. The Badgers simply outskated, outshot and outplayed RPI.
GoBucky 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2010 http://www.uwbadgers.com/sports/m-hockey/recaps/100210aaa.htmlIn Badger men's hockey team's first public appearance of the year, Badger White earned a 1-0 victory over Badger Red in Saturday's Red-White Scrimmage. In front of an estimated crowd of 1,500 fans at the Kohl Center, senior Podge Turnbull (Hayward, Wis.) scored the game's only goal with just 3:20 remaining in the third period. After penalties to Justin Schultz (West Kelowna, B.C.) and Eric Springer (Wrightstown, Wis.), Badger White had a five-on-three advantage. Freshman Tyler Barnes (Eagan, Minn.) sent a pass across the face of the goal, and Turnbull put a one-timer behind senior goaltender Scott Gudmandson (Sherwood Park, Alberta). Junior Jake Gardiner (Minnetonka, Minn.) also recorded an assist on the goal.Defense and goaltending had held off any scoring until that point, as numerous goal scoring opportunities were turned aside by the two goaltenders. Senior Brett Bennett (Williamsville, N.Y.) made 17 saves for the shutout victory for Team White.Gudmandson turned away 19 shots for Team Red, including eight saves in the final period when Team White kept the pressure squarely on Gudmanson's goal. The game was a relatively clean contest, with just six penalties called. Team White was 1-for-4 with the power play, scoring the game-winning goal on a five-on-three advantage. Team Red was 0-for-2 with the man advantage. Team White outshot Team Red 20-17.Not much offense, but some pretty amazing goaltending, especially by Bennett.http://www.uwbadgers.com/sports/w-hockey/recaps/100310aaa.htmlThe No. 5 Wisconsin women’s hockey team wrapped up its season-opening series against Rensselaer Polytechnic with a 6-0 win over the Engineers in front of 1,819 fans at the Kohl Center on Saturday night.Junior Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho) led Wisconsin (2-0-0) with five points coming on two goals and three assists. Junior Brianna Decker (Dousman, Wis.) and Saige Pacholok (Edmonton, Alberta) each tallied a goal and an assist, and freshman Brittany Ammerman (River Vale, N.J.) posted two assists.“Lots of good things came out of this weekend, but from a teaching standpoint there are things to work on,” head coach Mark Johnson said. “It was a good weekend to start, now we move forward and focus on the next one. RPI played hard both games.“It’s a good opportunity this month to work on things. We have to continue to get better. It’s always a process starting out.”Another great performance by the ladies!
