Optimus_Prime11 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2010 I have been braking my sticks at the same spot (1/4 past the heel on the blade), 2 one90's and 1 one95. I'm getting curious that it has to do with my flex. I have been using 102, uncut since 8th grade. I was 5'8, 145 and could barely flex it. (my mom thought the flex was in relation to how much you weighed). Now, as a junior, 5'11, 145 I can flex it pretty well but I feel like I'm going to snap it. should I switch down flexes? All my team still uses 87ish flexes and I'm scared that if I switch down to a lower flex I'll snap it. any advice?
MilleniumFalcon 5 Report post Posted October 3, 2010 may be the problem is your slap shot technique? are you sure you hit the ice on right angle?87 flex is OK even for much bigger guys. and one more thing: manufacturer is interested in such a result :)

My technigque is right, and I hit it at the right angle. After awhile they just break, none of them lasted a full season. How much whippier is the 87 compaired to the 102?what do you mean by "manufacturer is interested in such a result"?
Chadd 916 Report post Posted October 3, 2010 Everyone says their technique is right, even if it isn't. There's no way for us to know what is causing your sticks to break without watching you but if you feel like you're going to snap 100 flex sticks at 5-11 145, you're taking way too much ice on your shots. I used to be "that kid" at my local rink, I attended every camp offered in the summer from age 7 - 14. I think it is pretty good. As for the downswing (not sure what to call it) how would you suggest I take on less ice? I know I shouldn't pull up because that would just make me unbalenced and upright. Scotty 8 Report post Posted October 3, 2010 FAR too many variables involved for us to accurately tell you what you are doing wrong exactly, but chances are that your shot technique is poor.

kr580 2 Report post Posted October 3, 2010 Where do your sticks come up to, either in shoes or skates (chin, nose, eyes, etc)? I would assume if your sticks are too long you'll pick up too much ice on slapshots that way too.

I'm 6'1 300+ lbs and use 100 flex S17's....granted I don't take a whole lot of slapshots I've yet to snap a stick from shooting, Only having a blade stepped on, or going into the boards with the stick getting caught up.
