Hockey pants help please ! Need advice on fit from owners

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I'm sure this question was on here before, but I couldn't find all the answers so I'm posting this.

I'm in the market for good high end hockey pants. Want them yo be mobile and not moement restrictive and have good tail bone and other protection.

Don't mind going to model that's few yers old

I'm 5'10, 195.

These are what I narrowed down so far

tackla 5000x

ccm tacks pro

warrior hustler

I would like to big these online as I'm never shopping in my lhs ever again, aside from everytjing being over priced the selection is shit and ppl there tend to

push what sells better for them

so these are my questions and hopefully se of you had both or are familiar with these.

Questions:

fit? Tight on top loose on bottom ? Or tight all over or loose? Etc...

Sit high or low?

Tail bone protection Protection?

Mobility/ movement restriction?

Weight? Which is heavier/lighter ?

And durability ?

Thanks guys in advance And sorry if this is in the wrong place and has been answered before a billion times.

You won't make a lot of friends with the LHS hate. Have you tried ther LHS's? Gong into one with a good attitude will help you and you'll learn more than ordering anything from online.

Now, to answer your original questions: really, you can't answer any of those questions without trying them on yourself. We don't know your body, and while you're 5'10/195 is a good start, I don't know what kind of body type you have.

Durrability wise, I'd stay away from a lot of the CCM pants. Don't know about the pro tacks, but I have seen a lot break down relatively quickly.

If it were me, I'd get the Tacklas, but honestly I've always loved the Bauer supreme lines. I like a slightly loser, longer fit and I find these work well, and have great mobility while still being very protective. But again, its subjective. I have a big butt and like to explode out of an aggressive position in my skate. This line feels great for me to do that.

for hustlers...

loose fit pretty much everywhere for me. sizing is off, you'll need a size down from what you're thinking. protection is ridiculous good, and tailbone is second to none imo (worn tacks, easton s17, midline bauers) and those didn't compare at all. the weight on them compared to those tacklas is about the same, probably a little heavier but not noticable. they'll sit to your kidneys and the ab protector goes to belly button.

These are what I narrowed down so far

tackla 5000x- Snug fit across the top. Not for people with belly's. Break in amazing, but takes a little time. Sit High.

ccm tacks pro- 520 model has the most protection of any pro pant I have tried. Slow break in. F-ing bulletproof. Snugger north american fit, if that makes sense. Takes a little pop over the hips, but once there they are pretty loose.

warrior hustler- Loose, baggy, comfy! Hang on the hips. Large diameter legs, def. run a size big. The pro stock ones I have had (3 pairs) have had questionable build quality. Had to have them re stitched here and there after a few months. Some unfinished stitches right out of the factory. That being said, my favorite pants. I'm fat though. Hang low.

fit? Tight on top loose on bottom ? Or tight all over or loose? Etc...

Sit high or low?

Tail bone protection Protection? Tackla 5000x Pro.

Mobility/ movement restriction? Hustlers

Weight? Which is heavier/lighter ? They all weigh about the same. Not the lightest pants out there. These pants focus on protection.

And durability ? CCM/RBK 520 Pro Pant. Indestructible.

well I don't telly care about LHS hate. If my LHS had good equipment and give decent deals and breaks I wouldn't hate on them. I'm not in Canada unfortunatelly where there us a LHS on every single corner unfortunatelly, good thing there is web shopping

Thanks for the info. The ccm pro tacks and 520 is it the same thing or not ? Does the ccm sit high and tight in top ?

CCM sits moderatly high. Higher than the hustler, but not as high as the tackla. The upper is very flared, mobile.

Dont know if the pro tack is the same pant. 520's are available all over ebay.

Tackla have wider legs.

Ok what about which pants reach further up in the back ? I get cross checked in the bag and often get hit in the gap between the shoulder pads and pants so also looking for pant reaches higher up ?

Been rocking the CCMs for a little over 5 years now. Skated 4-5 times a week with them. Only problem was the zippers for the legs eventually breaking. Not a big deal once I got out of high school.

Had Tacklas as part of our team issued kit two years ago. No complaints, and I had a better range of motion with them than with the CCMs and zipped legs.

Matter of preference I guess.

My Tackla 9000 come up higher than just about any other pant I've worn.

Hope this helps but almost every Tackla pant I've tried on (and the ones I own- 900's) come up pretty high on the back. That's one of the main things I like about Tacklas. Just wish they were easier to find locally.

As I see here ccm is out. So between tackla and warrior, even though I heard good things about warrior, tackla is about $50 cheaper , that's 25%, but objectivelly tackla has as many plusses if not more, than warrior , right ? Wider legs(mobility), come up higher(back protection), better tailbone protection , etc....

If it was me personally, I would go with Tacklas. I have the 5000 Airs and they are the best hockey pant I've ever owned. Great durability, ventilation, protection and very light. Once they break in ( about seven to ten ice sessions) they are extremely flexable and very non restrictive. Much better feel than the 9K's I use for spares. (in my humble opinion)

A bit off topic but what co is making the Tackla's in Canada now under their own name? Is it Eagle, Graf or ? What models?

I think it's eagle, as I heard it on this blog somewhere, I know the distributor in US is Montreal hockey

what do you mean break them in ? I didn't know I have to , other than my skates.

Also how to determine the right size in tackla ? Ppl say that u have to almost force them on ur hips at first, and then they're better, is that true ? That the right size tackla will have about 1" gap between the two sides when u tie the white shoe string to connect the two ?

Yeah the padding will feel hard at first but will soften up with more use. And yeah with my tacklas i ahve to really force it up until it 'pops' through my hips (that's what she said). It's supposed to sit tight in your waist but the mobility on them is amazing. I have the 5000x which is plenty overkill for beer league but I was really impressed with how there is so much padding yet mobility isn't compromised.

Ton of protection , but I need to skate to use it and these are stiff,so I hope they'll break in fast. Slating again Soon so hope it works. Tons of protection, feel like a tank, ! Like I run through a wall !

Wear them around the house, sitting on the couch, etc. The sitting on the couch and getting up will break the waist area in quicker.
