Considering a stick switch...

Recommended Posts

Ok, did my research and I have an idea of which blade pattern I want to try and I've narrowed it down to a few however I have a few questions that I'm sure you Bauer experts will be able to answer :)

I'm looking for a stick comparable to the Easton S17, it's what I use now. I am very unfamiliar with Bauer's sticks so I'm not even sure which stick competed with the S17 last year. I'd like to try something with a grip but it's not necessary.

I am currently using the Iginla pattern. Have considered the P88 Kane since it seems to be the closest to the Iginla. Are these patterns a close as the specs say? Ideally, I want something with a little bit more puck control than the Iginla. (Definitely want a longer blade).

Thank you for your help.

NOTE: I am very interested in trying out a pro stock stick however I have no clue whatsoever how I'd be able to obtain one other than Ebay.

Was that last year's stick or this years? Bauer has so many different lines that it's making me cross-eyed. One95, TotalOne, Supreme, Vapor, X, bla bla bla.

X:60 is the current Vapor line. Vapor sticks have a low kick point and the Supremes have a mid kick point. TotalONE is the current line (just released) and One95 is last years Supreme if that makes sense. The One95 has the best puck feel out of any stick I have personally used...most people say the X:60 lacks feel, but I haven't used it myself so I won't comment.

With that said, you can get One95's on closeout right now for around 150 bucks.

Thanks! That helps a lot.

So would the One95 be considered "up there" with the S17/S19? At $150 I'd definitely make it a candidate. Just saw the One100 on HockeyMonkey for $189. I assume that's this year's version of the One95???

If your looking for Pro Stock, contact TSR, their website is tsrhockey.org and their number should be on there, they dont have much of a selection as the season just began, but they do have some warriors and a few easton pro stocks left and maybe a couple bauers hidden in there. But your best bet is to go out to your LHS, bring your s17 and compare side by side to other sticks.

The One95 was the top of the line for the Bauer Supreme line prior to the release of the Total One series of twigs. Many feel that this stick is the best all around high end stick for both feel and durability. With the price reductions, I'd definitely pick up one or two before the shops run out.

The switch from a Heatley/Iginla to a Kane curve really messed me up because of the rocker; my stickhandling just wasn't as good and my shots suffered so I've since switched back to Eastons. Just be sure you know of this!

Yes, the P88 will be as close to Iginla as you can get with Bauer. The S17 is a mid-low kickpoint (designed to be low, but due to the hosel shape, ends up being higher). If you want that same kickpoint, you'll need to look into Bauer's Supreme line of sticks.

Supreme line: Higher kickpoint for more loading on shots. The One95 was last year's stick from this line and its blade had both epic feel and durability. Seriously, the blade on that stick was a game-changer for composites because it had such a "soft", controlled feel. Notorious for great shots from those sticks as well. This year's newest stick from Bauer is in the Supreme line and it is the TotalOne. Same concept as the One95, but a bit lighter/better balanced, and the blade is a bit stiffer. Not enough market feedback yet to determine if blade feel is worse, the same, or better than the One95. The One100 stick is one model under the TotalOne, but its price and make up would put it at a top-of-the-line stick for several other companies. Same concept as the TotalOne, but uses a bit heavier materials and different blade. All sticks from this line have a boxy, squared shape shaft.

Vapor line: Lower kickpoint for a quicker release. The X60 is their top stick from this line. Known for a great release as well, but it is personal preference between this stick and the Supreme line's kickpoint. This stick feels slightly stiffer than it is rated at due to its lower kickpoint (some find it necessary to go down one flex rating in order for it to feel normal). Uses the same carbon material as the new TotalOne, thus making it very light and very balanced. The blade on the Vapor line of sticks is known to be very lively and produce hard shot, but also known for having a very "dead" feel. Many call it the "ceramic" feel, as if the blade feels to be full of porcelain. Very lifeless and odd feel if you ask me, but some like it. The sticks from this line have a thinner shaft shape with quite rounded corners, making it a more comfortable shaft to hold.

Lots of good info guys :) I'm going to see if I can get a feel for the One100 tomorrow at the rink's pro shop. It sounds like it's their best "all-around" stick (shot/price/feel).

How is the durability on the Supreme line?

UPDATE: Just realized the Kane is the same curve as the old Lindros. I've got an old wooden Bauer stick sitting in my storage closet with the Bauer curve...will have to compare :D

if you ask me, the blade on the s17/s19 is similar to the vapor's blade. very thin, "lively". I might give the edge to the stealth 'cause it feels a bit stiffer, but then again i'm comparing some broken in vapor blades to a new s19 blade.

I've never used an S19 but I'm not exactly thrilled with the feel of my S17's blade. Heres to hoping I can try out the One100 or X:60 tonight. Either way I'm treating myself to a new piece of equipment this week — whether it be some EQ50 gloves, a new stick or some new shin guards. :D

If you are considering the supreme line, I think your best option is to order the one95 if you can find your curve and flex even if it is still $200. Also I'm sure most people on here would say the one95 is a much better stick than the S17. I like my one95 alot more than my S17.

I would say durability depends on the person using the stick. My first one95 was used by an nhl player for a short time and then used by me for most of my season. It didn't break until I blocked my buddy's slapshot with it during tryouts

What did you like better about the One95 over the S17? Also why not the One100 over the One95? I get a player discount at the Pro Shop @ Saveology so I might be able to walk away with the One100 for a decent price. $200 is my threshold for a stick.

Thanks again everyone for your help.

Puck feel and kick. Plus the blade never went soft. I'd go with the one95 becuase it's a proven stick. There won't be many reviews of the one100 right away because most people are getting the TO.

Thx! I'll def check the One95 out if they've got it in store. I'm pretty sure I want to go with P88 in an 87 flex so we'll see.

If anyone had used the old Easton Black Stealth, which one of the Bauer sticks is more like that one? Thats by far my favorite stick ever, and have yet to find anything by Easton to give me the same performance. I'm a dangler/quick shot kind of player, not many slap shots taken, and would like the best stickhandling stick out of S19/TotalONE/X60. Thanks in advance
