new cage?

Recommended Posts

Another vote for the 480 in white or chrome i just feel like bauer cages are too close to my face it's sort of hard to describe.

if you can still find it i would go with the itech titanium cage they made a while back. someone correct me if i'm wrong but it's the only one to be made out of titanium so i should be the lighest cage out there. BEST CAGE EVER!

I have the titanium too and it's definitely the lightest one ever made. I like it much better than the older steel cages I used to use, but with that said the 9500/9900 does seem to have slimmer bars so the sight lines may be a bit better. I've never used the 9900, but I did pick it up out of curiousity and put it in front my face and if for some reason my titanium cage (and the backup I purchased) became unusable that'd probably be my first choice. For now, I'm very happy with the Titanium - you can still find them in Canada on clearance at Sport Chek (I've seen them for both $49.99 and $59.99).

I have a Reebok 8k helmet with a 5k cage and i need a new cage what would you recommend?

Well, based on the feedback given in this thread it looks like the 3 you should be looking at are the CCM/Jofa 480, Bauer 9500/9900 and Itech Titanium. Those seem to be the ones with the most positive feedback. The Titanium may be hard to find - if you're in Canada check your local Sport Chek. I'd just go to the LHS with the best selection and hold up everything they have there and then decide what you like best. The titanium cage will be the lightest and I've had no rust issues after using it for 2 years. The Bauer 9500/9900 seems to have the thinnest bars and the stainless steel should be pretty rust resistant. Traditional steel cages tend to get bad rust problems after a few seasons - especially if you leave your helmet in your bag and don't air it out.

Of course, you'll also want to make sure whatever cage you choose fits your helmet properly so be sure to bring that with you.

What cage do NCAA players use? I would think they would use something like the 9500/9900 or the 480 in chrome or white models for better vision but they appear to all use the same black cage no matter what brand of helmet they have on.

A lot of schools wear the ccm 480 in black, some teams, like BU, wear the bauer or itech rbe 8 with the black outer/white inner wires

Saw that the Bauer 7500 cage is about $10-$15 less then the 9900 cage. Both have slimmer bars, true vision color. Any other real advantage on the 9900 to spend the extra money?
