Equipmentitis

Recommended Posts

Now that I'm back into the grind of playing hockey. I keep surfing the web for hockey equipment and just keep buying. Any tips on what people do with their old equipment? Not always easy to sell on Craigslist or Ebay or give it away to Play it Again.

Any tips on equipmentitis?

Some of my old stuff I just keep and people know I am really into gear ask me if I have what they are looking for. Some of my closer friends I just give a way stuff. I've sold helmets and gloves, given away gloves. Some stuff like pants I only get when the current ones are worn out or to small. Skates I never give away though! Old shafts and replacement blades I resell or give away if they ahve no value to me.

by the way, great term-equipmentitis

Get active around here and then subscribe to the trading part of the forum. You have to be a contributing member for a while first.

Lately I've tried to just keep my extra gear and not sell it, then as it stacks up I'm less tempted to buy new gear. Especially since 90% of what I buy/sell are blades, shafts, and sticks. If I want to try a new curve, I'll keep that blade even if I don't like it, so next year when I want to try it again I'm not out buy again :p

I live in a pretty poor area. I donate my some of my older usable stuff to guys who are short on cash or the local youth hockey/HS team.

I sell a lot on the forums & eBay if I feel I can get good money for it ($50+). Anything less I just keep, its not worth the hassle of selling. I have given some stuff away if it is something I don't want to keep and of lower value.

I take really good care of my equipment though, so it increases the value when it comes time to sell it. I take a lot of precations to avoid smell, wear, etc so I can get most of out the re-sale. I just bought two new sticks that were 100% funded from selling three used sticks I had laying around...
