x60 vs. one95 shoulder pads

Recommended Posts

I have been wearing the X:60 shoulders this season and have no complaints. Mobility - don't even notice they're there, no bulkiness whatsoever. Blocked a slapper right to the chest the other night, no bruise, nothing. I would definitely recommend them if you're looking for something extremely light, mobile, and protective.

what shoulder pads are better in terms of bulkiness and do the shoulder caps come off the x60s like they do on the one95s?

I recently just looked at both in the store. I preferred how the main straps fit on the x:60 much more than the supreme's. Both should be comparable in their bulk, I didn't notice on the shoulder cap removal however.

Thank You! That's tough then because I wanted to take the shoulder caps off and wear them like that and I was leaning towards the x60s but now it looks like the one95s for me. Thanks again guys.

Why would you remove the shoulder caps in contact hockey? You're just asking to get your shoulder popped out or your collarbone broken.

Agreed wouldn't let that influence your decision so heavily... Keep the old lightweight 5030's for messing around and your new set (whatever you choose) for more serious play.

I am not worried about my shoulders and the collar bone protection is still there I am more worried about my sternum I am not a big hitting type guy I just get a lot of shoulders to my chest.

So you take a lot of hits. All the more reason to wear the shoulder caps. I'm speaking from experience here. The one game where I chose to wear a shoulder pad that was missing a cap and the other cap was more or less gone, I took a hit from the side and got crunched between the glass that didn't give at all and the 210lbs forward hitting me. Broke my collarbone in three spots and sat out for 3-4 months (re-injured it during practice).

Wear the caps. You don't get any style points for sitting on the sidelines.

I realize what you're saying and I too have a lot of experience playing jr hockey and now college and I know the league and my style of play and I just need my chest protected I play full contact roller as well and have never had a problem wearing the padded shirts with no shoulder caps getting crunched into the boards.

Fair enough. Though, someone of your experience level would/should realize that wearing shoulders would benefit you more than a chest protector. I digress though.

A note on the One95 pads... The shoulder caps are removable, but the bicep pads attach to the shoulder caps. I seem to remember looking at them in person and realizing you couldn't take off the shoulder caps and keep the bicep pads attached. I think it was because the straps on the bicep pads were too short. Hopefully someone with the pads can chime to back me for sure, but it was one of the reasons I didn't spring for them. I wanted a better alternative to my Itech SP50's, and I thought they would fit if I could take the caps off.

i wear 60's and theyre great. mobility, protection, low bulk. And the caps are removable and readjustable.

Sounds like that settles that. Best of both worlds, in that x60's were preferred by most, and now confirmed the caps are adjustable.

I don't see why you wouldn't just wear the caps anyway. I don't even notice mine during play, are you worried you'll get made fun of for having them? It's not so funny when you're in the ER. No matter how much experience you have, injuries can still happen.

A teammate of mine has a pair of shoulder pads that he hacked up just to protect his chest and spine. Actually turned out looking like a sports bra. Needless to say, he doesn't hear the end of that...

I have all black skates and a fishbowl I'm pretty sure I'm not worried about getting chirped. I was a roller guy before I got into ice and shoulder pads have always bugged me, it's not for looks it's for comfort and what I'm use to.
