Grippy sticks - not so much a fan

Recommended Posts

So, the grippy stick felt great in my bare hand. But I didn't love it so much when I skated with it - too tacky to stick handle. My bad for not checking it out with a glove, but has anybody in a similar situation utilized a remedy that worked. I'd prefer not to candy stripe if possible. Thanks.

Yeah, try a really fine grit, you don't want to be taking the paint, etc off. Personally, I had the tack on my old Vapor lite 30 and I hated it. I let it wear off naturally and really preferred the stick without it. I've passed on grip with my vapor 40 and 60's.

Used a Louisville rubber back when they first came out, hated the feel and hated what the did to my gloves. I used sand paper around the middle of the shaft ( where my bottom hand usually goes) and it worked well enough

If it's the Reebok 8K shaft, you're out of luck. I sanded an 8K multiple times and I could not get the horrific grip off the shaft. When I used it (for a few games), I scrapped up some snow and rubbed it against the shaft to increase the lubrication (since there was none).

I actually was opposed to the grip sticks when I first started using them after non-grip, but over time I've grown to like them. They will also lose some of their grip naturally from normal use. If you don't get used to the feel however, I know guys who have had success with the sandpaper method that has been recommended.

I have had some success with using clear spray paint over the gripcoating. Just go real light and make sure you do the painting at the right temp- i had one "bad" incident where the paint got kinda gloppy since it was too cold out when I did the stick....may need to re-apply every now and again, but it works for me :)
