Anyone skating in this year's U+CL's?

Recommended Posts

Is anyone skating on the CCM U+ CLs? I didn't see any listings in the review section or the Long Term reviews, and realizing that these are still fairly new, someone has to have them. What do you think, and if you have skated in the Pro Reloadeds, how do they compare? I have those, like them, but find them a little narrow in the forefoot and toe box. From the retail descriptions, that seems to have been a change for this year. So if you've got the new CLs, how do you like them?

I have them.

They are definately wider in the forefoot area then the Reloadeds were (I had them as well). The CLs are more comfortable (probably due to the wider forefoot and better tongue). The only complaint is that they are insanely stiff. I have to adjust my lacing pattern to make up for the stiffness and allow myself to flex forward enough. The skates are also a slightly higher cut boot then the reloadeds were. If you dont like the narrow forefoot on the reloadeds the CL's will be right up your alley, go to your LHS and try on a pair if you can.

Thanks for the info, I'll definitely take a look. Anyone else? Lots of "views" for only one reply!

I have never skated in Vapors so I cant give a depth comparison. They would be about average depth though if I had to guestimate, they are not deep like a graf 709 but they have a decent depth to them

My CCM 07's were less deep than the Vapors. I found the CL's to be roughly the same as my 07's.

Can anyone comment as to how narrow/wide the new heel is compared to vapors?

I went and tried on a pair today and they're definitely roomier in the toes than my U+Pro Reloadeds. And for me, that's a good thing. I must say that the U+ foam is really, really pliable during the baking process. These are very comfortable, even though they're very stiff. I'll probably get on the ice with them tomorrow. But so far, so good.

Anyone else with any comments on how the depth / volume of the CL's compares to Vapor? The hockey shop guy told me the CL was a higher volume boot.

I've been on the ice now a couple of times in them and can report that I'm pretty pleased. I think that all the reported improvements over the Pro Reloadeds do benefit me - or at least they benefit my feet.... They are definitely stiff and the first skate was pretty uncomfortable as my feet really felt it. But I skated a full practice in them later that evening and stopped thinking about my feet pretty quickly. So, so far, so good.

As for the questions about the depth compared to Vapors, I've never been a Vapor skater, sorry.

I have them, i have been using CCM skates and have every model of them besides the 12, but its always been a little narrow on my foot but this year they nailed it, fits my feet perfect, and heat molding is amazing and they outted it out so you can fit shinguard in a bit. but i always had a problem with the holder and steel so i got the Bauer Tuuk lightspeed 2 holder black and it looks sweet, now i have the best boot with the best holder and the best steel, i would recommend getting it done

can anyone comment on the durability. will these skates last 3 seasons with use 3 times a week

One could speculate, but how is anyone going to know if they'll last that ling when they've only been out since October?

Not only that, but how you take care of your skates is going to have a lot to do with how long they last.

I tried on both a 7 E and a 7.5 E (widest boot in ccm) and neither would fit me. I couldn't believe it because usually ccm's are the widest fitting skate other than the Graf 709. The 7.5 E actually was harder to put on than the 7 E, so maybe the two pairs I tried on were mis-labled. It seemed like the padding in the boot was keeping me from getting my foot to the bottom of the skate. It felt like the bottom middle portion of my foot wasn't even resting on the foot bed. Definitely not sure what was going on there. I would have loved to give them a try since they seem to be decently priced.

Wow, you must have a really wide foot if you had a CL E width and your foot was so wide you couldnt even get it to lay flat on the footbed. I often have to go with an E width in some brands and a D width was more than enough for me on the CLs.

You will probably have to go with full customs unless you go with a crazy wide skate like a Graf ending in 9 in Wide width or an EE width Flexlite boot or somthing like that.

i understand but maybe if someone who plays at a high level could comment on how they have held up that would help me in making a decision on whether to get these or nor

well i play a high level competitive hockey and i tried on the x:60 and the 10K but not the new easton skates, they are holding up well super comfy but very stiff at the beginning but deal with it and a couple games they should be broken in at the end of every game whip them down and hang them up so they can dry and air properly, the fit is a little wider but is a good thing and the U foam in the cl are really well placed and thick around the heel. get them heat molded and it really does feel like its part of you i have no movement in my feet is perfectly fitted. just take care of them and you will have the best skates i have ever used over my whole life CCM out did them selves. and if you want to take it to the next level get the tuuk holder and steel. best combo ever because the holder on the cl and steel has always been meh to me

Totalones EE and Graf 709 wide fit me just perfect. But totalones may have durability issues and I am waiting for a price dcrease and more user reviews. The Gafs are justt like lead weights so I hope that some of the durability issues that a few people have had with totalones is just a bad few pairs. When I tried CCM skates on in the past the E width was by far the widest skate out there, but they didn't have as much padding in the mid foot and ankle area as the U+ CL's this year. Perhaps if I tried on a baked pair that moulded to my foot, I would have better luck with the U+ CL's. It is hard to tell what they wiil be like when they are fresh out of the box and stiff as a board. Also my feet aren't really wide compared to a lot of people, I just have funny shaped feet and some bone structure issues. It is a pain in the ass.

Why does everyone say to switch to Tuuk holders????? Is it just personal preference or are Tuuks really that much better??? Is there a big difference between Tuuks and E-pros????

It's really just personal preference and probably sometime a whim.

They are both great holders.

From my experience, the e-pro is a more durable holder than the LS is. But it is also heavier. The LS is definitely more flexible and thus more prone to breakage. What some people may like in the LS is actually this flexibility.

Before changing the holder you should really try to work on the profile/radius/sharpening of your steel first.

I gave the E-pros a chance because they're supposed to be good holders as well. Couldn't quite get dialed in. Even had them radiused to match my tuuk steels. Ultimately, I swapped them out because of feel (Always skated on Tuuks. The only other time I had a non Bauer skate was a Graf and it came with tuuks on it.) It could have been all in my head but the CLs were perfect once I swapped the holders out.

to me the tuuks have a more balanced feel to them and the steel holds up nice too, i played some pond hockey and my ccm steels got rugged super fast but i swapped for some tuuk runners and they hold the sharp better i dunno i used the e holder for years and years but gotta hand it to bauer the tuuk is AMAZING put it on

How narrow would you say the heel is compared to the X:60s?

when looking at the heel you dont notice much until you try them on, the X:60 is kinda roomy and the CL has a snug fit to it both before heat molding but the CL when i got heat molded it was a oerfect fit, i have common feet no odd lengethes and yeah just had an overall good comfort i bought the x:60s yesterday just to be sure if i got the best skate and when i heat molded they still had some movement with the X:60. and i had none with the cl

hope this helps
