Profiling System

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Are training center is getting into sharpening skates. We have purchased a Blackstone machine. What is the best system for profiling? What is the most cost effective solution? We are new with profiling and would like to hear from the pros. Is profiling worth the investment?

Merry Xmas

J

I'm not sure about which "system" is best for profiling. But after skating on profiled steel, I can say that it makes a big difference and that it is worthwhile from the customers standpoint.

If you have good feel with the sharpening, you could just get templates with varying radius profiles. If you hold it to the skate blade and have a light behind it you can see where metal needs to be removed. More time consuming, and maybe less repeatable, but a heck of a lot cheaper.

Me, I built my own for a Wissota for about $350, and yes, it's worth it.

The Blackstone Shaper system is a good option if you have a dual head machine at least. We use it on our Stealth machine and it's quick, easy to learn and effective.

Thanks for all your replies, TheMagnificen7 we are receiving our new stealth dual head in a week or so. It's good to here it works and is easy to learn I was a little afraid of profiling as I have seen some butcher jobs locally. Any advice you can give would be apprciated!

Cheers

J
