Oggie Grip

Oggie Ergo Curved Hockey Stick Grip

Recommended Posts

Well I can honestly say I've never seen one at my local rink, but I have seen them online. I happen to have a stick or two already cut too short for my liking, so I might pick one up and give it a try. Probably the ergo, if your gonna try something new and strange might as we make it really new and different.

The pro grips are really nice. I've had friends grab my hockey stick and use it without gloves and never noticed that it was anything different. In my opinion, that's a win. Something that performs but isn't noticeable is ideal.

I like the concept and have purchased both the curved one and the more traditional looking one and tried them out. I couldn't get used to the curved one. Change is HARD! LOL. I tried the more traditional one for a longer period of time, but ultimately went back to my Tacki-mac. There was too much knob on the Oggie for my liking, I didn't like the flare that covers where the grip meets the shaft, and it was also just too darned long.

I did have trouble getting the grip tight enough in the shaft too, even with the shimming. I felt it was coming loose a lot.

Now - seeing the pro-stock versions make me think that if I could get my hands on one of those that I'd try the grip out again. Ideally I'd have a 5 or 6 inch straight plug with a smaller knob and a sand-grip type surface. And it would plug seamlessly into the stick.

If I could have THAT, then I'd be really happy!

No need to bother Neal. You've been a great supporter of our Ergo, even when a lot of people were at first skeptical about it. E-mail me through our site www.oggiegrip.com, and we will set you up with a free pro-stock Ergo.

Joe

Joe, I'll take you up on that, thanks very much!

But I already dremeled the white pro-stock ergo a bit. I like it a bunch more now. I'd always found the rubber grip coating on the pro one harder and more slippery. Taking off the edge around very top let me drop it into my palm a little more. That seemed to improve my grip and gave me a little more flexibility. My next step is to wrap it in some powerflex tape to add some more grip. Those pro-stock ones with the look of the powerflex tape are intriguing. I'll buy one of those from you as soon as they hit the market.

I'd personally like to hear from those that felt the ergo was comfortable or not about how they hold the stick.

I always made a knot that was about an inch wide and close to half-an-inch thick. I'd be willing to have the knob less thick, but I found it easier to slide my glove under the stick to pick it up if it got knocked from my hand. It never crossed my mind to hold a stick with my pinkie off the edge until I read about it here, and, even though I understand the argument about greater range for puck handling, it seems like shots wouldn't be as strong with one finger off the stick. Anyway, because I always placed my hand below the thickness of the knob from the top of the stick, it didn't seem strange to hold an Ergo grip in the middle of its curve.

Six years later, using a regular stick feels uncomfortable, from being too strange an angle on the wrists to too large/boxy in my hands.

Size 15+ are big hands. When I helped Joe in his booth, some people would say the grip seemed to small, and they invariably had large hands. What some players with large hands will due is use textured tape to make the grip wider, but still have the shape and flex of the grip.

By the way, Joe recently texted me a photo of a player with one of those small letters at the top corner of his chest, who had a curved end to his stick. Let's see if the Gear Boys can figure that one....

Not sure if this is the player you saw, but it looks like Doaner has been using an Oggie Ergo curved.

Yep. I posted it in gear sightings thread last week. Think he's been using it for about 1 - 1 1/2 weeks now in games.

I have to agree that the regular style pro grips look good - I normally use tennis grips or twist tape and wrap it with a flat tape layer over the top, so the more traditional wrapped style looks like an interesting choice for me. Some very mild indents to fit the fingers a bit more closely would be nice also, and really distinguishes these from other grip products.

I actually felt the ergo grip was a little small my friend had it and it seemed like it was too short for me. Some size 15 gloves are too small for me though so maybe it is just my enormous hands

We have recognized this from the very beginning. We manufacture a full ultraflex 100% carbon Ergo pro-stock grip that can be made up to 7" long and in virtually any custom width for a player with a larger hand now. These ultraflex carbon grips are much stiffer than the nano-composite material, and are suited for much taller players and players with very strong slapshots and one-timers.

Also, Jarick is doing an MSH long term review on our Ergo grip. Check it out. Ergo Long Term Review
