Easton S12 vs Supreme One80

Recommended Posts

Can you compare the two in terms of fit (heel, mid, toe, arch, how tall, instep), protection, latteral support, forward flex and energy return? What is an out-of-the-box radius on the One80 stell, it is no longer 9, right?

Many thanks.

So basically you want us to summarize all of the discussions about Easton and Bauer for the last 3-4 years in one reply? These are completely two different skates as opposite as you could imagine. You would have to do more search one each "word" or concept that you have, this is too broad of a question. So look at threads that deal with Easton Stealth models, S15, S12, S17, well the ones that have the composite shell. And for Bauer, do a search on One90, One75, One80.

Cheers

Ah, the search button police :-).

I did that, looking at many Easton threads, One100 vs One80 threads, price range threads, etc.

That is why I asked. In terms of fit, some threads suggest they are similar, narrower heel, medium mid-foot, similar toe box with Easton possibly being a bit smaller.

Other threads, like what you said, suggest these are completely different.

For the recoil techno on the Easton, some threads suggest it is a marketing gimmik, others suggest it actually works, but only for bigger folks.

What I am looking for is a hands on experience of somebody who tried them both on, skated in them, or an LHS employee with hands on experience who could comment on the differences or similarities.

If there is thread with such topic that I have missed, a cold beverage of choice is on the way.

I got a hockey monkey gift card from my co-workers and wanted try some new-for-me skates. Hockey monkey CS folks, while very friendly, did not comment on these two skates. With no LHS to speak of, I don't want to call other places, waste their time, only to buy elsewhere.

Good on you for helping out.

RS

Actually I disagree, the S12's and the Stealth series fit more of the 'wider fore-foot, narrow heel' variety. While the Supreme's heel/ankle fit isn't as tight as the Stealths. They're similar...the search function isn't great though, I have to admit as well.

I recently purchased S17's which replaced my One75's. I also tried on the S12's and One80's. As far as fit goes, Easton's seem to have a narrower heel, wider forefoot and a bit shallower instep than my One75's and the One80's i tried on. Additionally the Easton's are cut just a little bit lower than the Bauer's as well. As far as protection, from the few shots ive taken in the S17's and in the One75's, I cant truly judge but personally, I think the S17's have better protection. For lateral support I would say its pretty even, both are stiff skates and depending on your lacing will offer the amount of lateral support needed. For forward flex the Bauer's are much stiffer than my S17's. Depending on your size it may not matter. For me being about 5'11" and 165 the Bauer's were a little much, I can flex the Easton's in a useful manner. If i were to compare energy return I would say the Easton's have more, but I never really flexed my One75's much so i really cant say. Maybe others can chime in and shed some light there and other places.

You can also check out WWW.icewarehouse.com. They give a description of the fit of each of their skates along with a short video usually going over the skates. Of course its always better to try them on in person, but not everybody has the luxury of having a good LHS.

Different people will answer your questions differently, even those who've used both skates. Different foot type or shape, different skating styles and different levels of play will have an impact on ones answer. Those opinions may not ring true for you. Best way to know for sure is to spend some time in each boot.

I wear the S12 and I'm pretty happy with them. However, I've never tried the One80's.

I have been checking their videos on youtube as well. I just hate to give them a call, only to buy elsewhere. Makes me feel like some pople who come into a store, try all the skates on, spend about 2 - 3 hours, then go and buy on-line...

i was asking the same question just recently when i was looking for new skates....bauer? or easton?... i read a bunch of threads on here...as well as other reviews thruout the internet.....the deciding factor for me was the fit...the s12 just fell better, right off the shelf....iv had them only a week now, played a few pickup games with em....so far so good

When it was time for me to get new skates I went to my LHS and tried on a pair in my price range in every brand they had (I'm sure I tried on the S12s but I can't specifically remember the fit). I ended up with a pair of One80s and am quite satisfied with them.
