2004 - 2005 CBA Negotiations

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know where I can find some good information on the 2005 CBA and the lockout/negotiations that led up to the signing of the new CBA? I've got to write a paper for the graduate Negotiations course I'm taking. Thanks.

I could send you the whole cba if you want.

the cba can be found on the nhl website. OP's paper is focused not on the agreement itself, but the negotiations that took place from the lockout to the agreement of the new deal. finding actual FACT might be difficult. most of what's out there is opinion or somewhat educated guessing and insight from "insiders".

Since MSH went live in the spring of 2004, there are a number of discussions on the lockout, and negotiations. If you go back to the older pages in this forum, there are some links that are still active. The oldest lockout topics start around page 98 or so and work backwards (lower page numbers) from there. It may be worth 20 minutes or so of scanning those pages to see what links are still active.

Thanks, I'll take a look. One item I remember reading, that I don't quit remember the details of is that at some point the players offered a flat cap, not tied to league revenue and with no escalation clause (I believe the offer was for a $45m cap). But the owners insisted on a lower cap and that's how the tie in to league revenues came about, with the result being a $39m cap just after the lockout, but a cap that is now north of $55m. Can anyone confirm the sequence of events surrounding that issue?

If you're not already use google to search for what see date range you're thinking. That should help weed out a lot of erroneous results.
