Skate punch question w/ pic

Recommended Posts

I've always had my skates punched on the out-sole midway between the ankle and toes for a slight bone protrusion. Usually they just punch them, sometimes with a little heat. I left these at a shop and this is how they came back:

Not saying it's good or bad, I've just never seen something like this before and I'm just wondering if this is normal.

It does seem to do the job but can't really tell yet as my feet are kinda swollen from being on the road for work and not having slept in almost 2 days.

Is this normal???

That is how they look when they first come off the punch. The ugliness of the punch will shrink down, but it will shrink around your bune spur the more you wear your skates.

Yes, that's normal. How much it's punched out depends on how far the bone sticks out, if your bone is way out there a deep pocket was probably needed. If it relieved your pain, I wouldn't worry about it. Once a guy wanted me to punch out the area next to the toecap so much that the seam at the toe cap ripped, Before I did it he said he didn't care what it looked like as long as the pain was gone.

Avi, make sure you get a extra set of steel for those and have them ready in your bag, they have a tendency to break rather easy, especially where the bolt head goes.

scorer75, do you have an extended metatarsal on your smallest toe? Thats what I've got, and my 705's have the exact same thing done to them. To echo earlier sentiments, the obviousness of the punch will lessen as you skate in them more.

Just get extra steels? Or wait for it to break and replace the holders??? I've read there are some issues, but can't find specific data, any input???

They were garbage, both holder and steel. No flex in holder caused excess pressure at the bolt point. Yes, wait till they break then get LS2's. You may be lucky and they won't break for a while, or they could break tonight. :-)
