Old Daoust Skates

Recommended Posts

I recently picked up an old set of Daoust skates and I can't find any information about them at all, maybe one of you will know something about them. They come from about 1981 or so, made of leather and nylon. They look exactly like a set of Nationals from that era, but they tendon support says Pacer on it instead. They came with a set of Tuuks (clear ones actual) and carbon steel blades. Does anyone know anything about them at all? Is the model of skate actually ''Pacer'' or are they Nationals? If model is Pacer, does anyone know where they fell in terms of quality back in the day?

Thanks!

Daoust had a lot of models of increasing quality that looked similar... Just like today. They varied with the internal construction\support, tongues, etc. Just like today's lines. IRRC, the top end of the time was the National 301 (I should remember as I had a pair but that was 10 or 12 pairs of skates ago???? If it says Pacer then that is probably what it is....

During the early 80's Dauost 301's where the best skates available at the time. At that time a pair was about $300.00 retail. Gretzky wore these skates. There was another blade that was comnpeting directly with Tuuk at the time which Gretzky wore but I do not recall the name.

I wore 301's and later 501's, which were both fantastic skates. The 301's had ICM holders, which were pretty good. They were like tanks and I don't recall ever hearing of one breaking. Can't recall what holder was on the 501', but I do recall the gold titanium runners. They really don't make skates like they used to!
