Shoulder Pads

Recommended Posts

Ill second the suggestion for Easton ST16's. With the new EQ50 stuff coming out soon you might be able to find some on clearance. They're low profile, but absolute tanks. The CCM V08/V10 pads are really nice too.

Just wore my st16's for the first time this AM, would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone looking for low profile, good protection....These are the first pads I feel "protected" in without feeling like robocop (have used ccm vo6, bauer classics, pro defenders, sherwood 5030, and some mission fuel pads) these are keepers, i think though :)

I'm still loving my Ferrells. Been using them for about 3-4 years, play in non contact ice leagues, usually do the hitting and don't take much so I was just in need of a little protection and a lot of mobility. Since we're all built so differently in the upper body area finding one good brand you love is probably due to trying on everything and finding one.

So just back from the hospital, 6 screws and a plate heavier.

I know its over kill for B league but after talking to the doc I'm going to get the beefiest pad I can find. A repeat could cause "quite a mess" of the shoulder.

I'm leaning toward the easton st 16 or eq50 though I'd like to try the Jofa pro. Open to suggestion though.

Edited to add:

After looking closely, from a strictly engineering standpoint, the CCM U+Pro looks to offer the best shoulder/clavicle protection.

Anyone that has worn these that can comment?

I've got the CCM V10 OVE pads from a year or two ago. They definitely do offer good shoulder protection, and they're low profile to boot. A little bulky feeling around the abdomen, but not too bad. The ST16's are an awesome pad, and I have a set on the way. I finally pulled the trigger on a set. I can't remember what the shoulder padding is like, but it's pretty good. Where the ST16's really shine is in the chest/back protection. The padding is thin, but unbelivably solid. It feels like plastic. When I was in Vancouver a while ago I felt the EQ50's. Similar to the ST16's, but not as beefy in the chest/back region. The shoulder caps on them though were very, very padded. That was the first thing about the pads that stood out to me. The caps aren't big per se, but the padding inside them is crazy.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the 3 pads you're looking at. However, Total Hockey is blowing out the ST16's right now for $65, and you get free shipping at $75. That's almost too good of a deal to pass up. I'd considered the ST16's tons of times at the local shop but never pounced on them, but for that price I couldn't resist. My ST16's will be here Monday, so if you want to ask me some more questions about those and the CCM pads, just send me a message. I'll be glad to help.

I might jump on the ST16's finally with the Total Hockey clearance. I'm around 5' 10", 165lbs. Not very big, specially not in the chest. Any opinions on whether a medium or large would be better? My local shop doesn't have them so I can't go try them on unfortunately.

I'm 5'11", 155lb and I wear a medium in the Reebok 6Ks. I like them. I haven't been rocked in them, though, so I can't vouch for how they protect my bones yet.

You're probably a medium. I wear large that fits me perfectly, and I'm 6 feet, 200lbs.
