Putting a full shield on a CCM helmet.. help!

Recommended Posts

First off, since this is my first post, if its in the wrong place ,MODS please feel free to move it!

Second, I love reading these forums, finally have something to post about!

I have a CCM Vector 08 helmet (size medium) the league I am in requires that all playerse have a full face shield/cage. My old helmet is a (size large) Mission 1501 w/ shield. I took the shield bauer concept II shield off the mission helmet and tried to attach it to the CCM but it didn't work. So could someone tell me if I need different mounts (I was using the ones that came with the Mission) or do I need a different size shield? despite the fact that all it says is "senior" on the inside of the shield. I really want to use the CCM helmet but can't until I figure this out.

Thought about taking it in to the LHS or the pro shop where the Capitals practice, but not sure if they'd be as knowledgeable as you guys.

Thanks!

I have the v08 but never tried mounting a Bauer mask, although I believe any mask should work depending on the mounting clips. Is it the clips when attached to the mask that don't line up with the front screw placements?

Well, most times when I see the Bauer mounted, the mounts on top are pointed downwards, I can only get it to fit if i turn them upside down(which is right side up), but then when I try to close it, the shield is already on my chin, yet the sides aren't anywhere near the side mounts. I'm not sure if its the mounting brackets I'm suing or if I need some type of spacer or maybe a smaller/bigger shield?

You've got it on correctly if the clips are pointed down, although I really don't think it makes a difference...maybe it's just safer if it's down. It's possible you may need different clips for the top of the mask...but odds are it's the stock clips that came with the concept 2. You're kinda screwed on the size difference since it only comes in a SR or JR size.

Any chance you can take a picture of this so we could see what the problem is?

If the shops aren't too far, why not try? They should have some extra hardware, in case you need it, and they shouldn't break anything, so what's the downside?

I might have found the problem, but I don't know how to fix it. The padding on the right side of the helmet in front of the ear comes down about a little less than 1/2" further than the left side (done correctly) so when I try to close the shield, one of two things happens.

1. the shield doesn't close because the extra length in padding pushes the rubbed of the earloops out too far.

2. If i force it over the earloop on the extended padding side, it feels like someone is pressing down with all their force on the right side of my head.

Can I shave down the padding to match the other side with an exacto knife?
