Bruins/Habs Round 3

Unfortunately, it illustrates the ignorance that too much of the sporting public has on concussions. Five years ago, I would have fallen into the same camp, but I've become more knowledgeable about it after attending symposiums with Kerry Goulet. The problem is concussions don't show up on CAT scans or MRI's, so no one ever knows how severe a concussion is/was until its symptoms have passed. It's never so simple as saying take off three days, then return to practice on Thursday, because there is no way of knowing how badly each brain was each bruised.

Fortunately for Pacioretty, his concussion turned out to be not too severe, but it's foolish to suggest it was embellished to get Chara suspended, especially since he also suffered fractured vertebrae.

I don't see the Canadians mixing it up their not that type of team, no one even did anything after Chara's hit. Then Lucic chased Pouliat around the ice to fight him. I'll be there tonight hopefully it will be a good game.

The Canadiens didn't have anyone on the ice who could've done anything after the hit. His size excludes most average NHLers from going after him.

As for tonight, I wouldn't expect any fireworks. I'm sure the teams have been warned and there will be some NHL brass in attendance, which will probably be the case for the next couple of meetings between the two teams. The last thing the NHL wants is anything even remotely similar to the Bertuzzi incident or the Isles/Pens debacle. All that being said, I think one of the few sizeable Canadiens could challenge Chara early in the game and I think he would oblige. It isn't a guarantee because the game has huge ramifications in the standings.

As for Recchi's comments, I haven't decided what to make of it yet. For those who don't know, Lucic made similar comments on Boston radio yesterday afternoon. I think they're basing it on the plights of Savard and Bergeron when they had their severe concussions and essentially couldn't function for months. I think their lack of understanding of concussions combined with what proved to be an early diagnosis has fueled the conspiracy fires.

Did the Habs "embellish" the injury for suspensions sake? I doubt it. While Montreal players have a long standing reputation for embellishing on the ice, I would say this sounds a bit far fetched.

Tonight could very well end up being the tamest, most boring game these 2 teams have ever played *L*

From what I have read, Bettman did speak to both GM's earlier in the week....they have assigned O'Rourke and O'Hallaran to do the game, and Terry Gregson will also be there tonight.

Wow! Boston is just laying the smack down on the Habs. Actually, it's still going so it could get worse.

I would like to think, and hope, that with Plekanec, Darche, Halpern and Sopel all coming back at once tonight that it is just a matter of rust and needing to get back in sync after time away and different partners/pairings. It is rare that a team has to make lineup adjustments for 4 returning players all at once.

Recchi mentionned after the game last night that he said that to take pressure off Chara. He said he knew that if he would make such a comment all the attention would be turned onto him instead of Chara for the game. Now, is he saying this just so not to look like an ass or did he really meant it to be that way. Honnestly, I can see him pulling that type of stunt to help lower the pressure on Chara and perhaps the rest of the team but at the same time you can't help but think that it was just plain dumb and that he may actually have meant what he said.

I think that if anybody else had made that comment it would just be dumb, but since its Recchi i'm inclined to believe that he may have said it to take pressure of Chara. The guy has been around for so long I don't think he'd say something like that without a good reason.

Worth mentioning that one person on this board was criticised for saying in the venting spot he'd gotten a concussion, than later talking in chat about playing video games. Not much different from what Recchi was saying.

The thing is, I don't think Pacioretty himself said he had a concussion. I believe it was the medias, maybe the team but that was even before they had him tested and discovered he had a broken neck. A lot of people were saying he had a concussion as he passed out on the ice after the hit so a lot of people assumed he had a severe concussion when in reality he may not even have suffered one.

I'm pretty sure Pacioretty wasn't taking any questions after the hit and he probably was concussed, tough not to be in that kind of a collision but possible. The assumption was probably made when they diagnosed a concussion that night that it had to be severe based on what happened.
