CannonBall 0 Report post Posted April 5, 2011 Howdy,If I'm puck handling better on my bare feet than I am on my skates should I try adding a small extension to my stick? Once I get on the ice my blade/stick doesn't feel as crisp as when I'm on my feet. I've been playing awhile and I skate fine. I was just curious if anyone has had the same experience. flyers10 57 Report post Posted April 5, 2011 If you are using the same stick for ice and dryland training and you like the feel on dryland better then you might want to add about 2" plug to give you that longer length on the ice like you have on dryland. Just have 1 stick with the plug for ice and other without for dryland. Most people do the opposite and shorten for dryland but do whatever feels best for you. wrangler 157 Report post Posted April 5, 2011 Alternatively, if your stick is the right length for you on ice, you could always practice with something shorter off-ice.
MatthewRoach7 130 Report post Posted April 5, 2011 How much is the lie effected with the change from dryland to ice? Could this be the "difference" he is feeling?
aaacomp91 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2011 the old rule of thumb was the stick length is supposed to be under the chin with skates under the nose without. The shorter the stick the better the stickhandleing you'll have. The longer the stick the better the poke check.
hunterphfr 12 Report post Posted April 6, 2011 I'm not even close to a dangler, but I'd recommend different stick lengths for off and on ice.
chk hrd 164 Report post Posted April 6, 2011 put your skates on (with guards)or inlines then you can use the same stick. You have alot more balance and stability on your feet so it is easier.
