nicksmission14 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2011 Picked them up from DarkStar50's shop today. I did have quite the smile lacing these things up. Huge smile because finally I had a skate that laced up my foot the way it should. No excessive wrapping that was killing my boots before. The amount Peter had them cut back in quarters was dead on. I'll try to post some pictures of how they fit when I can.The big issue, my left foot. That is the foot that has excessive pronation (10 degrees varus) Laced up the boot, no roll in the tendon guard. The foot feels stable in the skate. I won't really be able to tell until I skate Sunday. But it looks and feels like this is the perfect combo. I'm sure it's going to be weird, I haven't been able to use the outside edge on my left foot since about 2003. I know I ignored the problem for quite a long time and wasted a lot of money, but I had no idea my left foot was really that bad.5.5CA Custom X60's built around custom orthotics, extra thick tongue, cut back quarters, Level 3 Stiffness w/ Reinforced eyelets, Total Edge Comfort and Fusion steel. Katzenjammer 1 Report post Posted June 10, 2011 .Looks good but the real test is when you forget about it and you're skating on it. Best way to test it, imo, is to do a comparison of your right v. left doing single leg inside/outside edge drills. Prior to your orthotics, no doubt your inside edge on your left skate was far more grabby; engaged earlier and deeper with the same amount of leg angle.. nicksmission14 0 Report post Posted June 14, 2011 I agree, the real test will be skating on it for sure.Skated in them for the first time on Sunday. It was pretty unreal. I was extremely nervous before the game and not sure what to expect. Not to mention I showed up late to the game because we were moving into our house. So my first time skating with the new skates/orthotics I had to jump in the middle of a game and go full out. I really couldn't even believe the difference. For the first time in a long time I have an outside edge on my left foot, No pain, all around better edge control and boots that properly fit my feet and allow me to get the forward flex I'm looking for. I should have done this a long long time ago. I wouldn't have missed the last year and a half or so of not playing.Bottom line, properly fitted orthotics with the right boot do make a big difference. Jordan 13 Report post Posted June 14, 2011 nicksmission14First of cangrats; skates look great and it sounds like the combination of the custom skate and the orthotic has already helped a lot! Please keep us updated, because, I can tell you from my daughter's experience, it will only get better as you break in the skates and your feet adapt to the orthotic. You will gain a significant amount of confidence in that recently found outside edge.Have fun! johnnyvegas 0 Report post Posted June 15, 2011 nicksmission14,Congratulations, I'm glad persevered and can enjoy skating again. I only spent a year in ill fitting Vapor XXVs before going back to a Supreme boot (I know, I should never have left). The transition was such a revelation that I was almost brought to tears. I can only imagine how you feel (but you must feel pretty good).Cheers,jv

Working them for 2 years now I can tell you your not a lone and when the find the right skate with the right insert they all say the same thing. WOWAnother thing you can try for anyone else having this issue if not as bad is blade re-alignment and Superfeet properly fitted if cost is an issue.depending on the severity of the issue. In your case I think you did all the right things.Best of LuckJeff

You don't realize how much of a blessing it is just to be able to play until you can't. I'm just thankful that all the parties involved were able to do such a beautiful job on orthotics/fittings/skates, I got lucky that I picked all the right people/companies to get this done.
